I am new here and was hoping I could get some feedback on whether these goals are attainable in 5 months. I am 5’10 and my weight fluctuates between 175 and 180. If I had to guess my body fat% is about 14%.
Would it be possible to get to 180-185 lbs with around 8-10 % body fat in 5 months?

Only one way to find out…give it a shot. I think it’s possible although you will need to really focus on your nutrition if you plan is to gain muscle as well as decrease body fat. Check out some of the articles from CT and JB.
What is possible is to focus on gaining lean mass while keeping fat gains to a minimum. This will improve your percentages of fat to muscle and move you toward your goal. Sounds like you are guessing about Bfat composition anyway so why not just do this for a couple of months and see what you look like?
Just to give you the quick and dirty of your goals (and I’m using the low end of what you think you’re at, namely 175 lbs. and 14% b.f., as well as the low end of your goal, just to keep things consistent):
current lean body mass: 175x.86 = 150.5
LBM goal: 180x.92 = 165.6
So you’re looking at approx. 15 lbs. of mass–while losing some fat–in about 5 months.
I’m not sure what level of training you’re at right now but the first respondant had it right: there’s only one way to find out if you can do it. I personally think it’s attainable regardless of your training level. 3 lbs a month tends to be on the high end of most peoples goals but is certainly doable. And you’re only looking at losing 10 lbs. of fat.
Anyway, good luck, but you have a better starting point than most people in the gym because you have a GOAL…it is essential, in my mind, to know exactly what you’re in the gym for and where you want to be in _____ months/years.
lift heavy enough to stimulate it
lift often enough to compound your efforts
eat enough to nutritionally support it
sleep enough to recover from it
live a life outside the gym and forums to have a life
lift smart enough to avoid injury
strive for balance in everything
most importantly, try.
Have you ever lifted before? Or have you lifted, but with no succes or without any “real” programs and nutrition (just bench, curls and mcdonalds)? If so, then you’re a complete newbie and 15lbs of lean mass may be possible to gain in five months. But it takes hell of an effort, in nutrition discipline and training.
And to me, it still sounds pretty much, but as told earlier, try it. Try it as hard as you can. It won’t hurt you if you gain just 10 pounds of LBM.
