Most likely, but I don’t really think anyone expects MMA to be completely safe. Still, I would much rather walk away with a broken nose - or anything else, for that matter - than a damaged brain.

Hahaha, true. At least the nose will heal. At any rate, I like watching a good fight, be it boxing or MMA.

It sounds strange, but when you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Boxers wear well-padded gloves and punch each other in the head for however many rounds…that’s a lot of head trauma in a relatively short amount of time. Add to that the fact that when a boxer gets knocked down, he has the option to get back up and get knocked around some more. Because of the padding of the gloves, people don’t get knocked out as easily either, which means they can take a lot more head shots than a MMAist would.
There are a lot of “Tough Man” deaths, also. 16 ounce gloves.

He argues that Toughman, which puts on about 100 fighting contests a year, leads to fewer deaths than professional boxing. Mr. Dore won’t say exactly how many fighters have died from Toughman-related injuries since he founded the event. But eight are known to have died since 1981. During the same period, at least 14 professional boxers have died after competition in the U.S. The comparison is of dubious value, however, because there isn’t a reliable count of how many individual bouts there have been in either category of fighting.

State regulators say that professional boxers better appreciate the risks they are taking and that conventional professional fight promoters make a greater effort to monitor the health of their boxers and provide high-quality treatment for injuries. Moreover, Toughman deaths appear to be escalating, with four of the eight known deaths, including Mrs. Young’s, having come in the last year.
in cycling if the leader of the race crashes his bike, the rest of the competetors wait for him to resume the race. it os also customary to not challenge the race leader in the final day (durying major tours) and i know of only one time that rule custom was abadoned in over 100 years. these arent rules it is sportsmanship, its a respect for the sport that one participates in
Why have the last day? Is it just a parade? No one outside of Europe really cares, I guess.

They don’t keep score at my kid’s soccer games. That about as sporting as a parade.

I love watching UFC and Pride Fighting, but you know what it’s going to take to make the rules tougher so it is not so cruel is someone dying and that is bullcrap. Throwing someone on the head is just plain fatal. If one of your family members died from so few rules doing this fighting, I am sure all of ya’ll would agree that you knew there should have been more rules laid out. I know it takes away from the sport and I think it is awesome watching someone get thrown around cause we humans are just plain sick which is sad, but there should be a stopping point.

Oh yeah another thing, I bet in one year there is more boxing matches than there has been in UFC and Pride Fighting put together since the beginning of their sport. That may be a little exageration but you get my point. Statistics have never been correct.

thats the problem with americentric people, they dont understand things like tradition, its not a rule so they could take the race on the final day but tradition is too strong. they have the last day because the race traditional ends in paris with laps around the arch that i dont know how to spell. it is similar to a victory lap. but just for the record there is more to win in the tour than just the overall, and all other leaders are still in contention(king of the mountain, sprinter, best young rider, and there is still the oppurtunity to win the stage just not in contention with the leader.

I hate people like you. Everyone seems to think that MMA is all about entertainment. No. MMA is not made for you, and you are in no position to pass judgement on it. MMA has saved modern martial arts by proving what works and what doesn’t.

The more rules there are, the less accurate it is. The competitors know the risks, and someone who isn’t even involved in martial arts has no right to say what should and should not be allowed. MMA is for martial artists - everyone else is allowed to watch, but don’t be talking about things you don’t know about.

And by the way, here’s a video of someone getting slammed on his head and then winning (just because I’m a spiteful bastard):

You don’t have to be a dick, dick. I was just giving my opinion. I am glad that he is alright, and I thought it was an awesome slam. It could have been one more inch one way and he could have been dead. I

Yeah, I didn’t have to be a dick, but you also didn’t have to be a dumbass. If everyone thought like you, there would be no MMA.
