Functional strength for the ladies

Why don’t I hear about more girls doing farmers walk & log lifts & stuff like that? Is it too ‘manly’ or would all the wrong muscles get worked (forearms, shoulders, etc) or would other girls get too scared to talk to them or what?

I don’t own a wheelbarrow…that’s about the only reason. As for other girls ‘getting scared’, most of us who work out with any intensity are used to ‘weird’ looks already laugh A few months ago I asked if I could work in on the ham curl machine, the guy made a face and then moved for me. I got on, took 10 pounds off of his weight and did my set. When I was done I thanked him and moved on. A few minutes later he came up to me and told me he had never seen a woman work that hard in the gym before. I sort of laughed and said that I was getting ready for rugby season and the gym is easy compard to that. He just looked a bit amazed and continued on with his workout. I’m sure many women here on the forum can identify…

What woman wants a thick waist?

functional strength does have to be taken to extremes. As an example, while athletes will use the Reverse Hyper to assist in explosive starts (amonst others) it showed be used by novice trainers given the incidence of injuries. I hope to assist. In faith, Coach Davies

farmer’s walk gives a person thick waists? is this true? how is it possible? as far as i knew, it was for shoulders and forearms. let me know. thanks.

Michelle, you probably made that guy’s day. I would bet most of the guys on this forum really appreciate it when a woman defies the “fitness chick” stereotype and busts her ass in he gym.

Have been following Coach Davies recomendations and have just qualified for the Ms. Galaxy. Functional strength is more important in everyday life or athletics and i don’t look manly though i can out do most guys at me and my husband(bbd) martial arts gym.
