Function Over Form: TheTexican's 5/3/1 Log

Knowing fundamental truth doesn’t seem to matter
After such tremendous abuse
Cause I’ve worked this ground since my youth
And still, the land has yet to bare any sort of fruit
I’ll continue to toil and plow
Hoping one day I’ll make You proud
“What have a got to show”
As I wipe the sweat from my brow…

NOTES:

Used some new Shock Dr. knee and elbow sleeves. I like them a lot!! Warmth was good and they stayed in place pretty well. No support, really, just a bit of extra comfort.

I’m feeling super fucking strong right now. Had pizza and cake for din din. Having some Surge recover with added whey, leucine, and cinnamon at the moment after some Creatine Malate. No more carbs until dinner tomorrow. :frowning: (may have a few brewkis tonight. I’ll do some HIIT if so.)

I found the meet I’m gonna do!!! It’s 20 April at MetroFlex-Ft Worth. I lifted there in early 2011, I liked it a lot and the owner Rendy DeLa Cruz is a pretty awesome dude to chat with. I’m looking forward to it. There is also a StrongMan event they are a part of on 24 May I wanna look at. I don’t know the scope of the competition. If they have an amateur class, I may give it a whirl before I head out to BLAHBLAHgyzstan…

Going to pick up my Airman of the Year award in a few hours and I had some PRETTY good news on the love-life front lastnight. I like my life lately. 'BOUT FUCKING TIME!!!

NOTES:

I can’t stress enough how much better I feel with CBL. I’m still trying to get variation in my meal, but things are awesome. With every ebb comes a flow, and I’m just doing my best to stay centered.

Meet in April and I can honestly see some big things coming up.

What meet are you doing in April? I’m doing the NASA March meet in Dallas for sure.

I’m going to do the meet at MetroFlexMMA in Fort Worth. I like the gym, the owner, and it was a good time when I did it two years ago.

That gym is awesome! I almost joined a couple weeks ago but decided its just to far for me. I’m on the complete opposite side of Fort Worth and would have to deal with a lot of traffic. 24hr fitness sucks, but can’t beat being half a mile away.

Do you all know each other?? How come ya’ll don’t hang out ??? If I lived in forth worth I would expect to be hanging out with you people!!!

I’m not 100% sure, but I believe he is around the Houston area? But yea, it would be cool to meet a lot of you fellow powerlifters on here!

Also, are you still using your Rogues? How are they holding up? I’m using mine for the first time today with front squats after deads.

I live about an hour and a half north of Fort Worth. Spock, you would DEFFFFF be part of the crew. You like to lift and you love video games, DUHH!!!

MM: Yeah man, I use my Rogues almost every day when I lift. I tend to wear regular shoes when I bench, though. They are holding up pretty good. I am tempted to get these, though!

NOTES:

Had to split my training into two sessions today. I had a CPR class along with some other other training I’ve had about 10 times. Ready to get done with this military SHEEEEIIIITTT!!!

Civilian life is a little over a year away and I’m pretty excited. Other than that, two days of rest before squat and some more treadwalking before then.

I BELIEVE IN A BETTER CONDITION. IN ONE I HAVE YET TO ATTAIN. I BELIEVE IN A BETTER LOVE. IN ONE THAT HAS YET TO CHANGE.

NOTES:

Pressed for time and I reached the end of this cycle today. I felt strong enough to maybe grind out a couple more, but I just didn’t really feel like it today.

I suppose it’s time to deload this next week and get back to it after that. I’m gonna add singles back in and shoot to a 3/5/1 template. Still feeling good overall and ready for April. Off to work!!

Again, my fucking post didn’t show up. I did some body building type work. Press yesterday and squat today. 5x5 with a pause and some pump stuff after. A little more work than I usually get in my deload week.

I have my training pretty much mapped out in my head moving forward into the meet and I’m ready to branch out a little and try something JUST a tiny bit different (but still 5/3/1).

What timeframe are you looking for a meet? I would love to get back into shape to do one, once my deadlift eclipses my girlfriends.

April 20th. I’m doing a meet at the MetroFlex-Ft Worth location in Texas.

Sounds like you got your work cut out for ya man! haha

Well in my defense she can pull about 370 or so lol

NOTES:

I’m on a 3/5/1 template. No singles today for press. I was pressed for time. The idea is to drop my training maxes, hit some high rep last sets and move into singles on the main movements. Still pressing forward without much of a deload.

Presses and chins feel stronger and I’m doing what I gotta do in the kitchen. Time for a shower and work.
