Going from 220lbs 20% to 220 17% is ~6.6lbs switch in muscle and fat. That’s a lot of weight. I know 3% change in bodyfat doesn’t seem like much, but when you look at the actual numbers, I say otherwise.
I called him a dipshit because he was misinterpreting my statements, and only resorted to insults because he called me “sonofabitch” and a “dumb bastard”.

I don’t believe that anyone would truly wish to look like professor x as opposed to CT, and I don’t believe that anyone saying otherwise is being honest. If that ruffles a few feathers and “gets the estrogen” pumping around here a bit, well, tough. It definitely takes excess calories and some fat gain to put on quality muscle mass, and I’m not disparaging guys with the “full house” look as it’s basically essential at certain times to look that way. I’m arguing against the idea that it is the ideal end-goal physique for anyone besides someone who can’t or won’t watch their diet.
I guess every strongman ever never achieved their goals. Not everyone’s goals are aesthetic. Some people’s goal is to gain strength in perpetuity. So fuck you.

Also you never said any of that shit originally. Your first post about it said basically anyone who doesn’t stay really lean lacks self control and can’t control their diet.
If you are a powerlifter, then physique is not a goal at all! Honestly, I’m not trying to be mean here, but your reading comprehension is awful.

I was thinkin of that pic you posted in your log. I think we at least have 8 abs between the two of us.

I dunno man. If you’re not trying to offend then fine, but that’s the quote I read, and that’s what I had a problem with. “has the self control to watch their calories to stay lean”

In the end, some people want to lift heavy weights for some reason or another. Maybe their goal is a PR, maybe it’s to win a strongman, maybe something else. Some of those like having abs, and some like to take up as much space as possible with an imposing but not chiseled physique.

Some women prefer to have big fat asses and some prefer other looks.

We might as well be discussing the best color for bathroom towels. I’m partial to maroon.

That was an old avatar picture as well, lulz

That was me at 210lbs at 17%, Last weigh-in (a few days ago) I was 218.5 with the same bodyfat percentage.

I just giggle that this forum is called Bigger, Stronger, Leaner

Apparently leaner is the frowned upon one as if you’ll instantly lose muscle and/or size if your pursue leanness equally to size and strength.

It’s such a weird (and false) paradigm

Maybe it’s the ambiguity of the title. As a guy who deals with business and technical requirements daily, I read it as:

Bigger (and/or) Stronger (and/or) Leaner

On a more personal note, my hands have gotten bigger over the years. Hasn’t affected my guitar playing much  Maybe we should debated lean fingers vs. sausage fingers and styles of playing.

I have small hands and fat fingers, one of the (many) reasons I got an extended range guitars (I have a 7 and a 8 string) was because the extra range made up for those two disadvantages; not everyone has Paul Gilbert hands

Completely agree with this. Since this discussion is currently about being big but “full house” or big but lean, I gotta say i don’t see why anyone get to these advanced levels of physical development just to impress women.

Women in general aren’t going to give a shit about one’s physique as long as he:

Projects extreme confidence (even to the point of being cocky if one can pull that off without looking like a complete ass.)

Dresses well and maintains proper grooming

Has a good income

Is not too short or ugly.

I got laid most when i stopped lifting, focused on my career, upgraded my wardrobe and kept my hair short and neat. Women didn’t seem to mind my scrawny frame at that time.

Best post.

If people think career, how you carry yourself and instant personality all come after “leanness” they are clueless.

One of the points made was that the condition I chose also helped me reached all of the other goals I had in life. It made it possible for me to get really big, get an education and a career. If all I did was lift weights trying to go pro, then I could see acting like anyone else cares how lean you are…but hopefully even a person like that would realize most people don’t compete and never will so being in contest shape or near it perpetually isn’t a concern at all.

Most of us who do reach extreme levels of size, strength and development know that this is a lifestyle…not some effort to stay in near perfect condition 24/7 for life.

If my goal is to get really fucking huge, all of that stuff about weight set points and building that large base of mass and strength matter a whole lot.

No one gets to that level by worrying about what most women want.

Most women want the guy who knows what the fuck he wants and is successful at it…not the other way around.

Good post.

Also, remember, Casey Butt says those hands and wrists can’t grow.

Either way, there seem to be a lot of people still here just to start shit.

I would like that crap to die quickly because decent discussions can take place here.

Posting the same memes and crap you see in off topic forums is not needed here at all.

But if he kept trimming his beard, he would never have achieved “Full Beardness”. That’s all functional beard. Plus, he is a sharply dressed man.

But could he win a title at the World Beard and Moustache Championships? I’m not sure he would be as impressive as a guy that has less size but better beard aesthetics.

But I suppose it fits his goals and lifestyle.

I’m just lettin you know my progress didn’t really take off until I started focusing on counting my macros and work on not being fat or full house or whatever. That extra fat you think is a side effect of muscle gain is just dead weight. I hope you realize that.
I’ll have to echo on this. I used to eat whatever I want and only trained hard because all I cared about was getting stronger. Recently I’ve decided to take a new direction by leaning down and I did so via counting macros. It’s been about 4 months and I’ve gone from around 200 to 180. Not sure about bf% but my estimate would be around 11-12% right now. Many people say you can’t gain strength while losing weight but I have made small PR’s and can confidently say that I am stronger now than when I was 200+. All from having my nutrition dialed in. I also feel better about myself and definitely have more energy now despite starting work in a high stress environment earlier this year.

Physique wise, people told me I got bigger. They couldn’t believe that I actually weigh 20lb less. My goal is to get down to the single bf% (for fun really, just because I’ve never been shredded and summer is coming up and all).

HAAA!

25 million albums sold and some of the coolest riffs on the planet.

Q: “Who has the coolest beard ever?”

A: I’ll bet dollars to donuts the top answers are “Santa Claus” and “ZZ Top dudes” (MAYBE Rasputin). None are very asthetic or even creative.

Without Googling, who’s the current World Beard and Moustache Champion? Mmm hmmm.

Billy Gibbons-- 25 million records sold. Poster boy for beardness. Some of the coolest guitar riffs on the planet. Goals achieved.
