Front Squat 12 Week Challenge

This looks like a great approach. Not that different from mine.

Great to have you along for the ride. Awesome back story and looks like focusing on front squat is working really well for you. Those were some good looking squats and already starting at 3 biscuits. Quality.

Given your journey and current strength level in these, it would be great to hear any tips or cues that helped you along the way.

I’m in. I will post a video later this week if I remember to. Idk if I’ll get to tie my all-time PB but it’s been a year since I have had a 405+ front squat.

Great to have you on board, and would be even better to see you smash a 405 before the end of this.

Interested to hear how you intend to train FS over the next 11 weeks, and of course any tips and tricks for the rest of us would be awesome.

Yeah, that sounds about right!

@rugby_lifting stick a video of this weeks FS here and ask away

Cheers. I’ll try and get a video tomorrow of my first proper front squat attempt and see what max weight I can get for 5-9 reps!!!

Tonight’s front squats
100 x 3 - first rep was good, third was a mess, really struggled to hold a good position. Barely holding on by my finger tips.
Then did 2 sets of 3 at 90kg. These were ok.

Small improvement from last week.

Got the chance to video a set.
Don’t have an intuition of RPE but the second set is supposed to be RPE8.
Will go heavier next week.
I weigh 175 now and am feeling the drop in body mass.

One small change. I put on my squat shoes. The focus shift from knees to quads and hip. And hitting dept is easier.

I tried front squats with straps this morning and really struggled. I didn’t get a chance to film myself but the bar kept rolling forward and I didn’t have much of a shelf.

I’m think that my posture is really bad. Therefore neck is forward so less room on front delts and rounding back so bar slipping forward.

I want to still persevere with this but I switched to back squats as I felt I was wasting time.

May have to swallow that pride and start light. It think that’s the whole point of this thread. To get better at it.

I just reviewed my entire training log, which is over 3 years old, and was thrilled to see that I’ve made steady progress in Front Squats the entire time. In fact, a recent lift (2x195) seems to have been a lifetime PR.
I’d assumed that, like all my other lifts, I’m weaker now than a year or so ago, when training took more of a backseat to other things.
So that’s exciting! Don’t know how easy it’s going to be to smash that PR but considering I wasn’t trying to PR or even thinking about what I was doing, I bet I have room to improve next few weeks.

This is something. @wiseman83 mentioned to me also. I don’t have any fancy lifting shoes. Hmmm

Are you doing any stretching to help with the position. Brian Alsruhe (@Alpha on here). Has some great videos on YT with tips on stretches and getting into position.
I also find it really hard. I see videos of people showing the bar sitting in the grove above their deltoids but for my the bar sits on the shoulder and then it have a choice of crushed windpipe, bar sitting on my collarbone where it meets in the middle (this hurts a lot), or just below the collar bone. Just below is less painful but means the weight is a little lower and this makes it a lot harder to squat and means my wrists are pulled back further.

Failed 245lbs for a single yesterday, was so confident I would hit it I didn’t even turn on the camera, was saving that for the 275lb attempt.

I did make this attempt at the end of the workout. Will try earlier next week, 225lbs went up easy the set before

We getting there.

My best this cycle is 237. Confident I have way more. Tomorrow’s double might get interesting.

And yes, weightlifting for me, is a must for this squat.
