Matt is this recording right now? MATT!..you got this…“Damn Son”…in high pitch black guy voice…LO fucking L
Is the Youtube page going to be your friend looking for help, and advice ? Where you live is a 370lb deadlift impressive, is it impressive because of the bad set up, and technique. The way he sets up, it looks like he’s going to row, now that would be kind of impessive, if he could get 10-15 on bent over row, he might deserve some views.
I just don’t understand what the big deal is, I have 17yr kids that deadlift 405, and with better form than your friend. It’s not like he has any hummor, or personality showing in the video. I don’t see why anyone would tune in to watch what they can see at any comercial gym, any day of the week–Some shmoe lifting an average weight with bad form, probably sponsered by Tylenol, or better yet XBox, because it looks like thats what he spends all his time doing, lol
Anyway I’d tell your friend that if he isn’t going to move impressive weight, or have an impressive build, he needs to be really funny, or really rude, somthing to make people want to tune in. I watch Clint Darden (house of biceps) because he’s funny, and informative. I go to Lift-Run-Bang, because he can move some impressive weight, has a decent build, and is funny, and informative. Your friend should check these out, and some other popular youtubers. Mabey act like he learned to lift in jail, that seems to be popular nowdays !
Post script; bring those hands and feet in, get closer to the bar, keep the arch in your back, don’t straighten out your legs so fast, take that stupid belt off-There you just deadlifted 405 !

How many guys at our kind of level (I deadlift similar weights) actually get in and do a heavvy single on the deadlift?
I’ve done heavy singles since I started. I’m not unusual.
People at this level should not be teaching.
He has nothing of value to share, for a couple reasons: 1. He has not reached a remotely impressive level of strength.
2. Beyond the fact that his form is really gross, he hitches the deadlift. It’s not a good pull. What exactly can anyone learn from this video?
I’ll go ahead and answer that question, because it’s really the biggest problem your friend has. A beginner can’t learn from a video like this, because the form is so terrible. An advanced lifter can’t learn from this, because the guy in the video isn’t advanced. There is essentially no audience for this, and that is why he will fail.
Your boy needs to spend some more time in the gym before he tries his hand at the youtube fitness industry.
Bingo

I think his max shrug video is even more impressive. This guy is going places.
OP, are you the guy whose voice cracks in the video?
Do not mock the great one, for you know not the extent of his power.

I meant to mention the belt, that shit is ridiculous.
Ian McCarthy has a huge following, and he’s neither funny nor impressive. People follow him because of his knowledge (although his ‘knowledge’ is certainly debatable). So just having a lot to say can be enough for success. The reason I didn’t initially mention McCarthy is because it doesn’t seem like the guy in the videos wants to go that route, or that he’s even capable of that.
OP, get your friend to do a 6 minute video of just him talking to the camera. About anything. He’ll either show some potential, or he can put that last nail in the coffin and move on.

I think your friend needs to Google “Richard Hawthorne,” and watch and learn. Prepare to be humbled.

This is my buddy doing his deadlift, he’s super proud and is trying to get a following on YouTube by posting workout videos.
What do you guys think?
Even if this particular video did not have shades of Diesel Weasel in the pull, I wouldn’t subscribe to your friend’s youtube channel. I visited the channel, viewed all the sections, and in watching each video I saw they lacked context.
Videos such as these are normally uploaded so they can be linked elsewhere. Either a person is looking for feedback within forums, or chronicling their progress as part of a training log. Outside of that the videos make little sense. In watching the four vids on the channel I didn’t know if I should be impressed a guy is deadlifting 370 lbs., or if it was appropriate for me to ask for what purpose he is doing two-inch range leg presses.
If your friend wants a following on youtube, then he has to give people something they can follow.

It’s for people that aspire to mediocrity, duh.
I am so pumped to go to the gym right now! Thanks for the gym motivation.
I’m not in these videos, I’m not the voice cracking and I’m not the guy lifting.
His page is for “Inspiration” and to show his “progress”.

Your quotation marks and backpedalling make me question your “friendship”.
And for what?
His form is not terrible, though it could be better, his lifts are nothing to sneeze at, though they could be higher…
meh…
I just think he’s just a little cocky, we’re friends but he just gets a little silly.

Oh well, the cocky gets beat out of you sooner or later, but you either have balls or you dont.
A little bit of arrogance is a good thing, because wisdom can be aquired, balls, not so much.
I’ll post a video of myself in a bit, it’s not much - I’m getting back into legs (after an injury, no full range of motion anymore) and was doing leg press. Hit 600lbs - I’m not going to post him and not post myself.
The cocky will leave eventually I’m sure - it just is a little much at times. haha.
- YouTube This is me, getting back into legs. Not great but I’m trying.
You seem like a nice guy. What are your goals?
Mine?
Leg Press: 1500
I’d love to put something for squat but I just can’t do that anymore about a year ago I did a 600lb squat without wrapping and I did some pretty nasty damage to my knee - I don’t really have full range of motion in that area anymore.
Bench: 225 for sets
For awhile I could bench 300 but I got cocky and was showing off for my girlfriend (wife now) and once again I got injured. I don’t know if I’m injury prone or if I’m just an impetuous youth who doesn’t know his boundaries.
I guess I should learn my limits.
Eventually I just want to be bigger and stronger, something realistic and something my future kid (March 21st!) can look up to and aspire to be like.
My lifts currently stand at…
Flat Bench: 200 3x8
Incline Bench: 225 3x8
Tricep Pulldown: 140 3x8 Dropset 100 2x15
Skull Crushers: 3x8
Dips: 3x8
Bicep Cable Curls EZ Bar: 120 3x8 Dropset 60 2x15
Seated Incline Curl: 30 3x8
Supinated Curl: 35 3x8 Dropset 20 2x15
Seated Cable Row: 160 3x8 Dropset 100 2x15
Lat Pulldown: 160 3x8
Shrugs: 275 3x8
Dumbell Overhead: 55 3x8 Dropset 35 2x15
I think that’s it…
I see. The trek of broken parts. I would’ve pegged you as more of a beginner.
