I try not to make it a race. But, I try to not “lolly-ag” around. I placed dead-lift on Saturday as my first three sets. If I do dead-lifts last I often have lower back pain by the time I get to that exercise. I use the elastomers under orders from my neurosurgeon. I have mentioned that before. But, Dead-lifts, squats, and front squats do get my heart going. Hildegard is home so I can do some sprints on the Airdyne. Thatk you for stopping in.
My week of being on an island is over. Hildegard made it back from Arizona last evening. Plus, a phone arrived on the porch last afternoon. A Motorola. She (Hildegard) is taking it in today to get it fire-up and ready for me. I will be back to pictures of my workout log tomorrow. Hopefully sprints this evening.
If not, see you all tomorrow.
I bought a kettlebell, just 35 lbs. My wife and neurosurgeon are going to be unpleased.
Pretty efficient this morning. I slept OK, reflux aside. My workout partner is hiding next to Hildegard. Chicken
Aside from that I added resistance to concentration curls. Those can be more difficult than one would think.
I had 148 total reps. I think I increased reps on each exercise, sans concentration curls.
Well, see everyone Saturday!
Edit: After a few months of waffle-ing, and knowing my wife will be highly displeased with my choice, I picked up a 35 lbs. kettlebell. Not massive, but something to swing with. I am having it sent to my school. I will see how my low back responds to swings. If I can perform swings without a lot of low back pain I will add cleans. If my neurosurgeon finds out he might be unhappy as well. My GP was reading notes from my neurosurgeon the other day. The look on his face when he came across: Friedrich wants to start skiing again was priceless. “Just on the groomed slopes…” I told him. I did pretty good keeping the weight off when I night skied 2-3 days a week. I would start skiing at 4:00 PM after work and ski until 10:00 PM. That kept me out of the kitchen.
In fact I have an appointment with the neurosurgeon soon. Just a check up. I am standing and walking, and strength training. That is our goal.
This was a good effort today. I counted seven reps on my first set of dips. Maybe six, possibly eight, I had a dog run underneath me and I lost count. They (the dips) felt strong.
The three sets of shrugs developed a good pump when following the dips. The up right row closed out those three exercises nicely.
I believe I am having less numbness and pain in my neck and shoulder since starting the neck exercise. That is a good thing.
I prefer the infrared dry sauna over steam. However, a home dry sauna is much cheaper I imagine than a steam sauna. I used to sit in mine for up to an hour. Now I keep it to 20 minutes. During my skiing days I would night ski, then come home and sauna before bed. That was quite nice. Though, we have pondered a hot tub. That is a lot of maintenance.
Ooohhh I used to love skiing! Grew up next to a few ski resorts. Now I live in the plains. The last time I got to go skiing (maybe 5 years ago) I was afraid of how it would go. Man, it was like riding a bike. I forgot how much I used to love the feeling of cruising down the slopes.
I have restless leg this morning. The curse of the Friedrichs. So I made use of the time.
I did an upper body - push workout. Quite a change of scenery for me. I think I have done the same thing, previously, for a year and a half. This week seemed as good as any to go with a simple split routine. Nothing fancy.
Those times are AM. In the coming weeks I will add another exercise or two.
I reduced resistance doing squats. I need an acquaintance period for something new.
See everyone Saturday!
Edit: I forgot, still tired from my Monday night restless leg all-nighter, I fell asleep on the couch after parent teacher conference. I then dreamed my dog was hit by a car. I came out of sleep quite quickly. Once I sat up, there he was. I gave him quite the hug. Then he went and grabbed his ball.
This “split” program I have started (all two sessions) is different. I still feel like I need to work my whole body. I will continue to proceed however on the split routines. I tried Body for Life some years ago. I did not care for it. I think it was the split routine. But, I want to see where this lands me. I am not sure if I want to add deadlifts to my lower body day along with squats? Or rotate squats and deadlift every other week. I think I will do both the same day for a few weeks. My concern is my low back.
Though this morning I am comfortable.
I had five families stop in to meet last night. It has been a long since I had anyone stop in I realized I was out of practice. One family was Spanish speaking. I noticed I was talking louder when I was trying to communicate. I reigned that in. Time for Duolingo.
