I answered in my log but I’ll answer here as well. I lift CPU. There aren’t a ton of feds in Canada because we don’t have the population. There’s also the CPO which is multi ply and raw. CPU has more meets which is why I lift there. I don’t think the CPO has enough people to support a ton of meets yet.
Anyway, all to say I lift CPU. I met Kacey at Nationals in Moosejaw a couple of years ago and have been following her progress. She’s a really good lifter and a kick ass deadlifter. I was watching a video of her recently. I aim to catch up at some point
I’m sure she’ll be able to give you guidance. Do you have your CPU card yet? You will need that to compete. You can contact Louis at llevesque@powerlifting.ca to get the form to send in. FYI, he’s also the local Titan dealer so if you need a singlet, socks, wrist/knee wraps, he’s the guy to talk to.
Thanks for the help O!
Kacey mentionned that she is getting my singlet, wraps and card from Louis - small world
I might have had a little too much of that sweet sweet vodka yesterday - who knew it could be so good?!!
Will clock a couple of work hours today and then I’m thinking Dexter Marathon - I have the whole of season 4 to catch up on. I’ll try to head out for a little weighted walk (throw in my 2x25lbs in a packsack) before I hit slacker mode. Git inspired me despite the snow - hell we’re canadians right! right?

Are knee wraps considered raw in the CPU?
Kacey said yes… she competes with them.
We compete with them but it isn’t considered raw as we don’t have a raw division. There has been long and on-going discussion about having a raw division. It has a lot of supporters. I believe it will be called ‘Classic’. I like the name. The jury’s still out on what raw will mean but some people think we should go with what the USAPL has meaning belt, knee sleeves and wrist wraps. I think that’s what it is anyway.
I worked a few hours and then at 2 got dressed up warmly and loaded my 50lbs in my packsac and left. It was a nice sunny, mild winter day. Perfect for rucking.
I negotiated 5km of snowy city sidewalks within an hour.
Question for other ruckers out there how many lbs do you load up with? I was just wondering if my 50lbs was lightweight?

50 lbs on your back is NOT LIGHT! Now I feel like a huge slacker for (1) not working today when I need to and (2) sitting on my ass watching the horrible weather outside.
You are a beautiful birthday girl, vodka-ed up or not.

Yes, that is what is considered “raw” in USAPL. And since CPU feeds into IPF, it would make sense to follow suit. Having knee wraps considered raw confuses me since I get a discernible gain from them but don’t seem to from belt, sleeves, or wraps.
I’ve been browsing ze net and seems that basic rucking weight is somewhere between 35-45. They suggest people start out with 25lbs. Hence I did not start at pussy weight. My question is, what would be badass? Cause we all aspire to badassery. Well the marines and others might haul up to 75-80lbs.
doable, I say. The tricky part is keeping a fast paste. Average time is 3hours for 12 miles, hence I would need to do my 5km is 45 minutes to maintain the same pace.
Goal will hence be to do 5km in 45 minutes with 50lbs and then move up to 75lbs and get target time.
The husband pointed out that keeping the pace for 5km and 12miles is not the same thing. I agree but there is no way in hell I am training for 12miles.
Woah Mainy! Firstly, rucking 50lbs is pretty badass as it is. But then doing it at a fast pace? That’s pretty nutty. Sounds like hard work alright! And yeah, doing it for 5km is still a long ways to be lugging weight. So I think you’ll get precisely the workout your looking for.

Like you said, in the marines we’d do 15-20 miles with 70lbs but that shit was horrible.
I just finished prepping supper: La Daube provencial au Madiran. My place smells so freakin good at the moment. Now to wait a few hours while the majic happens.
Ingredients:
1.5kg of beef chuck
3 onions, 3 garlic cloves, 3 carrots chopped
1 bottle of Madiron red wine (paid 15$ for mine)
splash of red wine vinegar
splash of olive oil
salt & pepper
1 tbs of herbes de Provence
2 Bay leaves
pinch of dried rosemary
1 square of orange peel
1/4 tsp of nutmeg
1/4 tsp of cloves
250 grams of bacon grossly chopped
*usually served on top of small pasta such as penne but I threw in some baby potatoes to make this a one pot meal
heat dutch oven in oven for 5 minutes at 170. Then place on stove top at medium temp. Add oil
preheat oven at 300
render bacon and remove meat leaving fat behind
brown beef in batches
once beef is browned and removed fry onion, garlic and carrots for 5 minutes.
Add red wine vinegar and scrape bottom to get the yummy bits.
add herbs and spices and orange peel. Cook for 5 minutes.
add beef and bacon, stir well and cook for 2 minutes
empty wine bottle and throw in potatoes at this point if you are using them.
