Frenchie's Fromage

The lifting.

Main, awesome stuff going on in here! I would have to say that you have to look like what you want to look like. Everyone’s idea of “athletic” is different. Everyone has a different thing that is important to them. The one thing I’ve learned from this whole thing is that lifting/working out/training/exercise are all about the individual. There are some basics, but after that? It’s all on you. Some of these women are too skinny for me or too muscular in certain parts for me. And that’s okay.

DCA: I love that lion!!! He looks kind of Ganfalf/Aslan-ish…very much the wise king of the jungle!

Random thought: Why are lions the king of the jungle if they live in dry places like Africa? Wouldn’t tigers be kings of the jungle?

Lions and tigers and bears Oh my!

I’ve been mulling over it all day and my conclusion is that those pictures do not portray Athleticism. Basically I want to see them doing dips like Kimba, chins like Snapper, Squats like Lil Power, bench like PMPM. Shit they could even skip a fuckin roap. Basically if they are athletes then let that shine through.

Thank you for playing around in my log. And I’m interested in what others have to say about this. Are the women from the home page Athletes or not folks? because that is the debated question.

Speaking of vanity, I got a kick out of wearing my racer back cami at the powerlifting gym tonight  We aren’t aloud to wear tank tops in my commercial gym. You know 'cause I could poke someone in the eye with my shredded triceps or somefin. Anywho I am currently beyond toasted at this point but feelin happy.

I gotta say, your husband is one lucky kat.
Thanks  but honestly don’t we all filter ourselves to some degree to portray what we want of ourselves on these sites? I am not perfect. I will chose lifting over housework any day of the week. I can deal with a crummy floor and grimey toilet until someone drops by for a visit. I am an incredibly loud drunk and have a fierce indepenant streak. How many guys would be cool with letting their wives travel alone down south for some bikini, sunshine and diving??

First of all, I love the knife pictures. Pretty IS relatively easy, but interesting is a whole lot harder.

To vote in your poll, I go for vanity over PRs if I had to choose. But I’d rather not have to choose. I don’t consider myself an athlete, but I think I am athletic.

I guess I don’t spend alot of time on the homepage for this site, because I have no idea what pictures you all are talking about. I’ll have to go look now.

I would, honestly. She never wants to do things for or by herself, despite my encouragement. Oh well I guess.

I think it’s hilarious that you’re a loud drunk and bet your accent runs wild with it too

and what feedback did you get on your squat form tonight? inquiring minds want to know!

also love the idea of a loud, drunk frenchie accent!

To answer your poll - it is lifting first and looks second for me to an extent. Though I’m not going to put on weight just to improve my numbers. I just want to get as strong as possible with the body that I have right now. I’m chasing PRs every week. I totally see myself as an athlete and I see lifting as a way to increase my performance or in my case right now - come back from an injury.

I don’t think I would be content with just lifting right now. When I injured myself I had a contingency plan -I still have that plan. If I wasn’t able to play dodgeball or practice karate I was going find something else to do. Indoor climbing and boxing have been tempting me lately.

As for the women on the front page - I would have to know what they do before I could consider them athletes or not. Though, most don’t have what I would consider an athletic build as far as I’ve seen.

Personally speaking, I’m going for functionality at this point. I love being strong but strength is no good when it’s accompanied by crippling back pain, busted shoulders and whatnot. I’m 43 and my body has been through the mill, so I need to treat it with a bit more care. I’m learning basic gymnastics currently and it’s fun - I can already do things I didn’t think I was capable of. In turn, I’m passing on that knowledge to the children I teach (I recently started as a primary PE teacher) in the hope that at least a few girls in the next generation will grow up with a healthy attitude to their bodies.
Am I an athlete? Hmm well, I’m not at all gifted - I’ve struggled for every gain and achievement and I continue to struggle. I think it’s fairer to say that I view myself as a physical person.

First of all, awesome training at the PL gym - so jealous of the sled dragging!

Secondly, I still don’t get the dead hammie situation on your squat (And now I’m concerned I do the same!). But if the coach tells you this - well he’s the expert. So don’t worry about having to take a step back to make progress. As you’ve already learned, that is the name of the game and it will do wonders for your lifting!

I can’t judge someone as athletic based on pictures, so I can’t comment on the ladies on the first page. But I definitely consider myself an athlete, and I definitely consider all the women in PW athletes. Nadia, put it perfectly:
Nadia Comeandeat wrote:

For me, every woman on this board is an athlete. I have no doubt about that. The goals of our training may be different-but we train and we train with purpose–deliberately, consistently and with an eye towards achievement.
I’m like LS in that my lifting is supplemental to my other training goals, which is soccer first and foremost, but mostly to be an overall powerhouse. I just really like the idea of being able to jump high, pull myself up, run fast, throw heavy objects - basically be able to escape attacking zombies or an immanent apocalypse (I should probably get better at swimming). The only problem with my training is that I think you become a jack of all trades, master of none…ah well.

Anyways, interesting commentary going on in here Frenchie! I also had a discussion with some colleagues recently about whether we can consider body-building a sport (vs. powerlifting and olympic lifting) - brought some interesting perspectives.

Also, I love loud drunk Mainy!! HAHAH! I’m a “boisterous” drunk too - we’d be a terror to drink with! HAHAH!

Really, all good stuff. To further on the subject, I think at the end of the day it depends on which definition of athlete you adhere to.

This is closer to mine:

“a person trained to compete in sports” wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

That does not mean that, as Kimba sais I would not consider someone “athletic” which has a different meaning.

“physically active; having a muscular, well developed body, being in shape; An attribute of a motion or play which requires fine physical ability” athletic - Wiktionary

Here’s a definition of Athlete that I think some of you might like from what I gathered from the response:

“An athlete is the one who exercises every day. An athlete is the one who white knuckles a rest day because she wants to get out on the road and run, even though her body needs a break. An athlete practices to be better. An athlete is out there competing, even though she knows sheâ??ll lose. Even though she knows thereâ??s no stadium full of people. Even though Sports Illustrated would only put her on the cover if she was in a bikini. Even though itâ??s only her sister sheâ??s fighting against.”

www.starling-fitness.com/archives/2008/11/01/what-is-an-athlete/

just some food for thought…

I’d say it’s a combination of both, but I’m siding with Kimba and I’d say vanity tops PRs. I’m not getting any younger and I want what I’ve never have…can’t help it.

I love the feeling of lifting heavy(than the average female gym goer) and getting stronger, but I also want to look hot doing it.

I don’t consider myself an athlete. When I hear the word, I think of someone training for a specific sport, etc(PMPM and all them for ex) I’m training to wear a bikini for the first time in my life, haha!

soldog - thanks for checking up on me. It was not all perfect but I had a few that were deemed nice. My wrists get achy from holding the bar with my elbows down but I’ve ordered wraps which I hope will help my with this.
I’m still not sitting back enough but I just need to get my hammies stronger and activate that lazy butt. Basically with this technic in mind I’ve had to adopt a wider squat stance, feet pointed out and really push against the ground to keep my knees from caving. stretching regularly everyday has also helped. Basically I’ve progressed in the past 2 weeks. So that’s good stuff. I’ll try to get a camera set up next friday so you guys can see the difference in what’s happening.

Masch - Cheers to my favouritist soccer-babe! said kinda slurry in broken in speakenglish

to wrap your head around what I am doing basically if you watch LP’s vid on her first page the first lift is her squat and she does not simply “drop” in the hole as I was doing. Her posterior chain is active on the way down AND the way up. squeezing my butt was not enough because it didn’t engage the hammies. By really pushing feet/legs down and out I activate those sleepy muscles and call them to attention.

edit: reason coach wants my posterior chain activated on the way down is because I do want to be carrying the heavy weight eventually and my previous method would have gotten me hurt, she mentionned squashed like a bug in the hole. and the knees would def pay for it in the long run.

Morning MIM - I got ya sandwiched

you want to know how many guys I dated/met who were intimmidated, felt challenged or jealous of this? Its not even funny. I would say it’s the vast majority. A little friendly competition is fun. Trying to hang me by my ovaries, is not. A guy who can chill, enjoy the fact that I get a kick out of working in a gym full of giant tires…well they are few and far in between. Let’s just say I’m “a catch” to a very special type of man.

But thank you for the compliment! If you value those qualities in women then that makes you, and those who voiced similar opinions, part of the rare breed of men I enjoy hanging out with.

By the way I’m a gym rat/acquarius with a baccus ascendent. That’s the blend that creates a crazy frenchie

Not Athlete though cute

This is an Athlete, both from powerful women images so I guess the answer is: some of them.

Of course I’ve been an athlete my whole life but I don’t lool like it either.
