Fortune Favors the Bold

Shoulder Day -

Feeling a lot of fatigue in my triceps. Maybe maxing on Sunday wasn’t less taxing than multiple sets of board presses. Still decent, but being fresh would have helped immense;y. I might be in need of a light deload.

May go lighter on Sunday and see if I can get my triceps back.

If I could military 250# for 5x5, I might develop a strut.[/quote]
So being able to press 225 5x5 isn’t enough for a strut?? Because I’m sure you could press that.

I don’t think I could manage that. Pulling planes and carrying cars would require some leg strength. If I don’t start working on my wheels, I am going to have chicken legs…and look like a less impressive Mr. Incredible.

Although, if I could just row a car…maybe, just maybe…

I don’t know. On a good day, I feel confident that I could get it for 3 sets of 5. 5 sets might be pushing it, though. I’ll have to try it sometime.

Anyone got any good homes remedies for a pain in the joint elbow? Besides morphine or amputation…

Congrats on the monstorous pressing.
I call Bulls#i+, from the video you can see you have GREAT calves!

Hope you figure out how to mend your back.

Your overhead pressing is solid. I also think 300 is right around the corner. Btw–how tall are you, you look like a big bastard. Im jealous

Null, my calves will never be real small. They have to propel to much ass.

Scott, I am a hair over 6’1". Used to be 6’2". But age and weight have brought me down a bit
I am all torso, though. I only have a 30" inseam.

Bench Day -

Plan was to go lighter today, so I would be fresher come Thursday. I only kind of got there.
Also, today is the day that I tested heels down versus on the balls of your feet and how it affected arch, tightness and performance, especially without a liftoff.

Bench
barx20
95x10
135x10
185x5
225x3
265x2
300x2
330x2 - heels down

350x1 - heels down

Face Pulls
110x12x3

Summary of the heels down test:

Arch - I had my wife measure my arch, using her hand, with my normal (on the balls of my feet) setup and the heels down setup. She measured by sliding her hand, pinky finger side down, between me and the bench, once I was setup. Result: As expected, my arch dropped, but less than a 1/2". Both ways she was able to slide her hand under me, thumb tucked. It was just slightly tighter when I was heels down.

Liftoff - made no dofference at all.

Comfort - This was the big issue. It was much less comfortable setting up heels down than on the balls of my feet. Also, since I never use heels down, I had a hard time setting them in the correct inital position. You will notice a lot of adjustment during setup.

Strength - Based on the feel of the reps and the video. I don’t think it affected it either way. I definitely wasn’t weaker.

In summation, FOR ME, heels down made a negligible difference arch, no difference in tightness and no difference in performance. It was definitely less comfortable, however.

Great benching Skip. Your grip is so much wider then mine. That width would send my left shld to pain central.

Steve, I bet my wingspan is a lot wider than yours, though (almost 76 inches). Unless you are talking about hand position in relation to my body…not just on the bar.

I probably should have done 2 sets at 330# and not done the 350#, for Thursday’s sake. But I wanted to get enough weight on the bar to really test the foot setup.

I’ve missed out here… awesome MP and great benching!

Great goolaly-moogaly!! Nice bench LS!

Great lifting Skip. I’m like you. I feel more comfortable up on the balls of my feet… I’m not like you I only dream about 350.

Thanks Schmidt and SteelyMan. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel, not that the tracks stop there. If I can just get this achy, old body to hold together that long

Wilson, it is definitely more comfortable up on the balls of my feet. My wife did point out, though, that even when I setup on the ball of my feet, once I am down and the bar is up, my heels aren’t far off the floor. She said that if I were to wear running shoes (high heels), they might touch.

I REALLY considered going for a new max, since 350# went up so smoothly. But I thought better of it and held back, hoping for a better Thursday.

Man Strick, that is some serious iron you are moving. Inspiration for sure.

Thanks kineticj. I am not sure how inspiring it is, but it definitely feels like a lot of iron.

that 350 was butter! Looking forward to Thursday’s madness…crush it!!!

Thanks, OG. I am gonna try. Might have over done it today, though.

Ok, here is the deal…stop it…stop it right now…this is insane…300# wide grip rows!!! That is just sick( in the teenage kinda good way)…unbelievable!! You’re going to need a weight stack to tie to the weight stack!
