Fortune Favors the Bold

Thanks, all. It was a good workout, even though I went into it without a plan.

Not lifting today. Going to a Saturday, Monday, Wednesday schedule. I hate working out on Fridays. So I will do MP again tomorrow.

Shoulders -

Day 1 of the new Sat., Mon., Wed. schedule. Decided to do MP again, even though Bench was called for.

I found my absolute MP max…at least for today.

Static Stretching

Military Press
barx15x2
95x10
135x10
175x2
195x2
215x2
235x1
255x1 - Guess I should be mindful of the rack

270x1 - PR +5# - forgive the profanity… Also, I went fuzzy while the weight was stuck, mid rep. Vision went kind of gray and I got a bit heady, but managed to hold it together.

225x5
135x20

BB Shrugs
315x15x4

------------supersetted with

Reverse Flyes
40sx10x4

Left elbow went really tweaky during these. So, I called it there. In fact, the elbow is slightly swollen and very tender, right now. Hopefully it is nothing serious. Ice and Ibuprofen on the way. Jack and Coke later.

That was awesome! I love how you finish the max effort. It’s a good thing the grey out didn’t turn into a black out. Had the bar hit your floor, it would have made a mark I bet.

I had to go look at the video on Youtube to see if you get the same idiot comments other people get. You, very wisely, have turned the comment option off. When I’m in the mood to be irritated, I look at lifting videos and read the comments.

Great work! That was really an awesome effort.

That was an amazing lift Strick, good job.

Mr. Strick,

I appreciate anyone who can get stuck on a max effort halfway up and not just bag the lift, plus you put the weight in it’s place afterwards with a solid f bomb. Awesome work.

ALL RIGHT! Mr strick SIR! great job! - hope the kids were elsewhere…

Congrats LS!

Note to self - I have got to start talking to the bar with more authority!

Thanks Jack, Joe. I love those reps. I had to sit down for a couple of minutes afterwards, because my legs wouldn’t stop shaking. It took everything I had.

Ouroboro, I am sure that lift could be picked apart, and not just by the youtube crowd. The 1st thing would be the dip of the bar before I lift. I guess it is the way I am built, but the bar rests at chin level, naturally. I have to retract my scaps hard to get the bar to right at my chest. Doing that pushes my upper body back and my knees get a slight bend to correct the balance. Not much of a bend. Just kind of unlock them.
The good part of that, though, is that pulling my scaps back, to get the bar down, is like cocking the gun. Then I get to explode off the bottom.

Brian, that is an interesting thing. You would think that, if I couldn’t get the weight up with the momentum, off the bottom, I wouldn’t have the strength to push it from a standstill. Once a weight sticks like that, assuming it doesn’t immediately come back down, I can usually gather enough extra to push through it. That begs the question, though, where is that push during a normal rep? Am I having a problem with activation? Or, since I had the weight stabilizd, mid way, did I adjust my body to better push through that portion of the rep?

OP, that is my psychosis. I hate to lose…even to inanimate objects. I guess I shouldn’t have taken it personal

George, no kids were in the room. Though, they may have heard it. Unfortunately, it would not be the 1st time they have heard the f-word. But I do try to watch my language. In this case, it had become, somewhere in that eternity that the bar hung there, a pissing match between me and the bar. I was a bit amped.

Seems the passion for lifting is back.

Big Man way to mash the gas pedal…that was one nasty bad ass effort…And fortune does favor the bold…we all just watched it!

Big lifts there Mister!

Loved that 270 press vid! I was on the edge of my seat watching it. Knowing you were going to get stuck midway but then prevail. Awesome!

Bulldog, I don’t know if that was passion or just hating to lose. I really didn’t want to workout, prior to. Once I got in there, though, the weights felt good. Even the 255 felt under control and not up against a limit. That was kind of motivating.

Thanks OG, Steely One and kpsnap. Snap, it was definitely a cliffhanger. I still get tense watching it…lol. Getting that one up made my day.

On a side…I am not sure what I did to my left elbow, but it is not a happy body part. It is still slightly swollen and hurts to extend. And any stress from the direction of say a front raise (palms down) is really painful. Got back and biceps tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes. I am guessing light.

Some big damn lifting Skip. You are really on a tear!

Strong MP Skip. You’re gonna hit 300 way before me. How’s the back holding up these days.

Thanks, Wilson. The MP does seem to be moving. Of course, my bench seems to be moving in the other direction.
Oh well…I’ll get there in the end.

Steve, 30# is still a looong way. And my lifts tend to go up and down, not up then level off. We will see.

My back seems to be close to normal again. I have already been plotting on how to throw in some lighter squats and pulls. I think that my overall progress, especially bench and MP, would benefit from my body being exposed to the loads.

I’ve been following your log for months. Very cool to see you hit new PRs and roll with the punches. Good luck with your back.

Thanks! It has definitely been an interesting ride…but well worth the effort.
Hopefully I can get back to some semblance of squat and pull work back into it.

Back, but no biceps -

Thought I was going to have to go light today. Then I got stuck at work an extra 30 minutes. Only to get paged, just before starting my workout and losing another 45 minutes. Just as well, I thought.
Well, turns out, seated rows didn’t bother my elbow at all. Lat pulls, only slightly. But time forced me to cut it short.
I can say though, this is the most that my rear delts and lats have hurt in a while. Good stuff.

Seated Rows - Close Neutral
100x15
160x12
210x10
255x10
300x10 - PR +5 Reps - These were balls to the wall…every tug, pull and jerk I could muster
300x8 - another all out set
300x4 - These were strict reps…little to no movement from the starting position
255x10 - strict
255x12 - PR +2 Reps - all out set, every cheat I could muster

Lat Pulls - Wide Neutral
210x10x2
210x7
160x12

That was it. And, apparently, that was enough.
Didn’t dare try the curls with the elbow. Hopefully, I will be ready for Bench on Wednesday.
