Fortune Favors the Bold

You really got it going bro! Keep tearing it up!!! 225 for 5 looked strong and easy, I’m a jealous. My shoulders are still causing me major grief. 1

Thanks, Colin. I have no idea if my millie mac is going up, but like with bench, my reps seem to be.
Shoulders do seem to be the biggest complaint. My left one aches all the time, on the front. But it isn’t enough to limit me. I have been very fortunate in that regard.

Do nothing day…birthday edition.

I hit 41 today. I would say, “the big 4 1”, but I don’t think there is anything big about 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 6s,7s, or 8s. Strangely enough, it feels pretty much like yesterday. Go figure.

My wife and I agreed that we were not going to do presents for each other, this year, since $$ is tight and we had 3 other birthdays to worry about. Her birthday (and my daughters) was on May 16th. At the last minute I broke down and got her a gift card to Amazon, as she is a reading machine. She would rather have books than clothes, jewelry, flowers or just about anything else. Did she get books? No. In fact, she just held onto the card and spent it on my presents. Good thing I love her, or I would have to pummel her.

So, I got an olympic EZ curl bar, which is good, since I can’t use a barbell, because of my wrist. And I got a tricep rope thingy cable attachment…for face pulls, tricep pushdowns and whatever else I can think of. That is useful, since my face pull rope was just that, a piece of nylon rope I had doubled and tied.

She seems to think that she got the better end of the deal, when we got married. I gotta tell you, though, I struck gold.

Steak tonight…and a huge, homemade, chocolate chip cookie instead of a cake. I know I shouldn’t, but how can I say no!?

Happy Birthday Skip! enjoy what you have and have a beer with that steak!

Happy Birthday, my friend. 41…I remember when I was 41, I think…

Oh man to be 41 again, I was still playing Semi-pro football…lol

Happy Birthday brother!

Hey, happy birthday Skip, eat the whole damn cookie it’s your birthday

Ah, but 41 is a prime number. That’s a very good age to be. I’m 53 so I’m sitting pretty good too. Sounds like your wife is a gem. I would be envious if mine wasn’t one too. Keep up the good work.

Dang it!! I didn’t want to start a new log before posting my maxes and year in/end stuff. Oh well. I guess the decision was made for me.

Anyway, the 20th will be 1 year since my 1st post. This week rounds out my 1st year of lifting “heavy” again. Squat max is on Sunday. Bench max is on Tuesday. Not sure how those will go, but I am ready for a change and establishing maxes seems a good starting point.

PHellar- thanks for the encouragement! I have to admit, I am a bit apprehensive about it. So many variables, and I HATE not seeing progress. I know I am stronger than my last go around, but you never know if that is going to show up.

I really need to get maxing out of my head and just move the weights. It is so difficult, though.[/quote]

You really captured how I’m feeling these days.

Thanks all.
It ended up being one of those days…lol. I started feeling nauseous not long after posting. That went away after a few hours. By then, though, the oven had gone out. We have a gas range. The glow bar for the “bake” was going out. So, I ended up swapping the “bake” and “broil” glow bars, until we get a replacement. That was a mess. Things seemed to calm down, then.

I wanted my steak cooked over charcoal, instead of gas, but my Weber bought the farm a couple of year back. So, I jury rigged a redneck grill…cinber blocks and the grate off of the Weber. Everything turned out fine.

My daughter slept over at a friends. I kept the boys up late and after dark we went out and watched the fireflies (we called them “lightning bugs” when I was a kid). My littlest was beside himself, jumping around like it was Christmas morning. I caught several for him and we put them in a jar. Later, we had a mass parole for them. Note: No fireflies were killed or injured during the exercise of this childhood rite.

Then it was off to bed. I thought the night had ended on a good note, until we heard the youngest crying. Something had not set well with him and he had vomited on his bed and the floor beside. Since my wife doesn’t do well with vomit, that became my detail.

At that point, I decided not to press my luck and called it a night. It was a good choice. Little man made it the rest of the night in his own bed. I slept like a baby, for the 1st time in a week. Now I can’t wake up…lol.

Bench this afternoon…

Aarrgghh! I missed your birthday, but happy BD+1. And with nearly 18 months on you, I can tell you that 42 is really no worse than 41, so keep plugging along.

Your wife is exactly like mine as well, and I laughed when I read about the Amazon gift card. Every once in a while I’ll get to thinking I’m doing alright, and then she’ll remind me by something she does (never by something she says) how much of a jerk I am. Just like a lofty bench, dead, or squat goal: something to aspire to but so far off in the distance as to seem nearly impossible without a lot more work.

Damn Skip, I’m a day late and a dolalr short! Happy b-day big guy. Glad it was a good one. BTW, your wife and my uncle share a b-day. They are still “lightening bugs here”. Funny how that works.

Thanks Wilson, sfp.

Less than stellar bench day.

It appears that yesterday’s nausea has turned into a stomach bug. I woke up thinking it was going to be a good workout day, but found myself without much of anything. Rather than griping, though, I will just say I got the work in. And I feel good about that. I need a nap…

405 4 board is less than stellar? Stop the train! Thats a helluva good day in my book.

Nice work for ‘just getting in the work’!!! Lookin good.

Thanks, Gents. It was “less than stellar” because I normally do 405x2 on 3 bd. press (there was no way that was happening today) and I wanted more than 1 rep at 340, but didn’t even try for a second. I just felt run down and my joints were achy.

I think, on bench and millies, I might need to alternate heavy and rep days. Back to back heavies, with millies in the mix, really wears on my joints.

Happy belated!
Nothing better then a good partner!

Yeah I’m with the others, I’ll take the less than stellar 340 bench any day.

Thanks Null, Joe.
