reading this made me think of Ken Leistner. i’ve always wondered how a guy weighing 160 and looking as if he barely lifts weights can be so freaking strong, not to mention being natural and not even using supps? not trying to be a smart ass here just looking for the answer.
just in case you’ve never seen - 407 x 23

I hate to sound like a hater but I call bullshit on this lift.
hahaha i can understand you guys being skeptical but it’s probably because you don’t know who Leistner is. the guy is truly old school, in his younger days he was employed by Arthur Jones. He’s always been a proponent of short and simple but brutal training sessions (aka HIT), and has trained this way all his life. the plates don’t bounce or clang because they’re tightly held together by metal collars, hence the 407 rather than 405. this lift is many things but bullshit it is not.
it’s a shame hardcore, no nonsense lifters like him get so little recognition [/quote]
Reading comprehension dude. The people who are doubting and call bs on it do so because there is little flexion on the bar. I mean, with four 45lbs plates on each side, and the bar doesn’t even flex? Notice that they are not talking about plates bouncing (against each other) or clanging. They are referring to bouncing due to the bending on the bar (which is independent of the collars.)
It is all within the realm of possibility that this bar is of a brand that might not flex as much as the ones you typically find at gyms. But I can say it doesn’t look like a fat bar at all, more like a regular type of barbell.
A regular bar starts to bend around 3x45lbs+1x25lbs plates (160lbs+/-) on each side on squats (and around 170 to 180lbs on each side when dead lifting.) The bending is visible.
The max that I’ve ever put on my back and get a good squat was 3 plates of 45lbs and 1 of 25 on each side, and I could see the bar bending (slightly but noticeable enough) without me even starting to squat.
But not so in this case, with more weight and with a good number of reps with the bar going up and down? How do you explain that???
