There is no reason you should be doing singles in camp bro. I’d personally either do just 3x3 on RDL’s, bench, and rows, or similar, or mayeb 12,7,3. But really, especially during such hardcore physically+mentally draining stuff, don’t do it, you could get injured, plus you really do not need the added soreness. If you lose some strength, oh well, it is worth it for the improvement in technique.
Sounds like you’re doing alright bro. Keep it up.
Few points on the lifting:
-
Don’t the coaches have you on a program? I can’t imagine they wouldn’t…if so, times sure have changed.
-
Keep your volume low, probably a warm-up or two per exercise and then two working sets. Don’t go crazy and kill any muscle group (you’ll probably be sore for days)…plus there’s an increased chance of injury.
-
Cleans, deads, lunges and neck should be your focus.
-
Explosive lifting is more important than strength right now.
-
Keep eatin’…especially carbs and fluids. Plus a big dinner like was recommended earlier. I really like the fact that you’re downing those surge/gatorade/creatine shakes during the day.
-
Your focus on recovery (ice baths, hot/cold showers, naps, protein shakes) will pay big dividends. If you can’t see it yet wait another week and look at the people around you…you’ll see.
Best wishes.
A couple things: (1) For 2/days, consume high-glycemic carbs right after your first workout of the day. You’ll recover much better and be ready for later. Don’t use soda, its sweetened with HFCS, not sugar. If too much $$$, make a jug of Koolaid and dump in the creatine just before you drink. Drink a boatload of water. (2) Camp is a lot easier if you prepare WAY in advance. 6 to 8 weeks out, alternate running days, with lifting days. Lift with 30% (that’s right, 30%) of your 1rm, as fast as you can for as many reps as you can. Your power will go through the roof.
I can quote the scientific studies to back all this up, if you need, and also if someone’s going to rip into me for this advice. But this does work.
Yeah, I gotta keep taking my whey + calcium casienate(Grow!) protein during meals even though I am drained and it feels like a hassle. The p/w and workout drinks during practice have helped. The Surge + gatorade + creatine is helping during practice. I consume 3 of those in a liter of water. Before practice I consume 1 liter of water + 2 scoops Surge + 1 scoop gatorade + 5 grams creatine.
During practice I go a little lighter. 1 scoop Surge + 1 liter water + 1 scoop gatorade + 5 grams creatine. I am thinking to up the Surge to 2 scoops as directed. I thought it may be too thick, but I may be not giving myself enough.
Than I give myself a p/w consisting of the same ingrediants as the pre-workout one.
Than I go immediately to ice whirl pool. Get out, than get my skin sanatized again. 30 minutes later I go eat. I ate a bowl of beans, salad, turkey sandwhich, all kinds of fruit. Than I slammed 60 grams of Low-Carb Grow!.
Today we went full pads. My kneck is stiff as shit and can’t rotate it well.
We have just less than a week left till we get a day off.
Our coach does give us a workout routine, but as you know sometimes they are inadequate. Today we did pause squats.(which were not that bad) I did 135 and squated down… pause for a second than explode up. Did only five because I don’t want to wear myself out. 3 sets" Than we were suppose to do box upsss. I skipped and just stretched. I took a nap right after practice. I was soooo tired, because I just dropped and slept for 30 minutes.
I think I may need to increase my protein needs more than I have been doing. I am not getting much from the dining hall because I am trying to stay away from their cooked food. 1 or 2 guys got sick from it… Maybe isolated but the food looks a bit processed.
Thanks for the advice again. If there was only some way to just not be sore I would be happy as shit right now. Recovery is soo key and I feel like I am doing everything right, except still sore…
Yes, I find focusing on the group instead of what is next helps get through practice better.
Now I am going to take another nap for 30 minutes before dinner. Than we have a meeting which they said will be short.
Because tomarrow we go tackle I believe.
Thanks-
Get lifted, I cannot tell you how much dedication you have to wanting this. Everybody out on that field has genetics that are probably as good if not much better than yours, but you want to be the best. Fucking nice job dude, keep that shit up, I’m cheering for you.
Update… Thanks Owen for the compliment.
It’s been hell thus far. We thought we were going to get a bit of a break on conditioning because of full-contact tackle practice… Not a chance… Our free safety got injured as well as our center.(as well as a couple others) You think that may be a clue, but no. ![]()
I have held up fairly decent thus far. I have an impingement problem in my left shoulder. I am getting “viox” pills in about 2 days. Be on that for 10 day’s and hopefully it will subside. Because right now I can barely lift my shoulder. Got to go in early tomarrow to get some heat and stretches before the *first practice and get it loose. Even though it would be nice to take 3 day’s off with the other 12 or 13 hurt players I know this is the time where the coaches start making decisions about who plays and who does not. We have a scrimmage tomarrow. I’ll be doing both offense and 2 special teams scrimmages.
Any advice on how to get my shoulder loose and ready to go I would appreciate it??? The trainer said my shoulder, back and traps are so tight that my muscles are getting tired. He say’s I need to work on my flexibility and he is giving me some exercises as well as an ice and heat regimen before and after practice. Even some electrodes or whatever. I have a feeling flexibility will be one thing I am going to concentrate in with my training. Any help on impingement in the shoulder would be appreciated until the “viox” arrives.
Oh, we have about a week left.
Thanks T!
Man thats football. You get banged up. Its part of the game. You have to go full speed in full pads at practice to learn how to hit, block, and run full speed in game like situations. What position do you play?
wide out goldberg. On Special teams as well. We had our first practice today which was special teams. Got blasted once. Focused on the person with the ball too much and didn’t see the person coming across my face. I lit up the place holder shortly after though when I came through the line.
Our second practice will be offense/defensive scrimmage.
I just finished my camp getlifted, I’m sure it was 15 times easier than yours. I’m up in Illinois and we had temps in the FUCKING 60’S. That is like it being 110 in january on the north pole. It was awesome, and made camp not even hard. Hope your doing good GL, later.
cool… 60 sounds nice. How long did yours last?
Tell me the specs of your camp if you can.
-Have fun
We barely even did anything for 3/4ths of the days because by our high school regulations you can’t go pads until that saturday. So we were mainly doing pulls and trap type shit, and back and receivers were catching and wedknot. Nothing spectacular, and even on our Saturday workout we didn’t even do full 1vs1 more than 10 times which was retarded. Oh well.
