Flipcollar's Filosophies

Minnesota. It is possible to buy quarter, half or full animals here. It is actually something I want to do. My reasoning is actually more so for wanting to ensure the animal I am eating lived a good life while it was alive. This is more of a concern for pork than beef (beef cattle spend the majority of their lives in open pasture). Pigs are often raised in conditions I would imagine would be miserable. I am not against eating animals (they wouldn’t get a live at all if we didn’t eat them), but I do think we should try to give them a decent life before so if possible. Sorry for the tangent.

The health benefits would be a side benefit, as would the cost savings.

I’ll have to look into it more. Sounds like an overall win.

I don’t want to derail here, but I agree with you on the ethical aspect as well.

I bought half a pig twice, and it was great. I don’t know prices may have changed recently, but since you’re driving to the farm yourself it seems like it should be even more favorable vs the grocery store than before.

Anyway, please let me know if you do try it! I’d be interested to hear if you notice a difference in taste/ quality/ how you feel/ weight/ etc.

I know I’m late to this thread here but @flipcollar it seems like your logs stopped in June. I hope all is well, I know you had some tough events in the past few years (that I saw you post about), but are you going to start back up the log and philosophies again soon?

thanks for checking in!

I haven’t been lifting consistently enough to have something worth logging, but I will get back to that.

I’ll take a look back at my philosophies page though, and see if I have anything worth adding!
