anybody remember these? when i was in elementary school a generation ago, girls were tested on these (boys did pull ups). is there any value to throwing these into a training regimen? i’m guessing as an arm strengthener?
What are those?
The only value is as a starting point to develop the strength to do real pullups. Use a chair to get chin all the way above the bar, then lower yourself slowly all the way down. Repeat this for reps. As your strength improves, stop halfway down and hold. Once you get to where you can do a set of 6 or more negatives, you should be ready to start attempting real pullups. Good luck, it can be done!
Say – flexed-arm hang is when you are in the top position of a pullup and you just hold that position instead of lowering yourself to initiate a full pullup.
i’m in such piss-poor shape, i can’t even slowly lower myself in a negatives-only exercise to work my way up to a full pullup. i remembered the arm hangs and how they made my biceps scream (i think my biceps are the weak link on the pullups thing. loooong arms, puny biceps) and wondered if that’d be a good starting point to even get to the negatives.
tarrying forth…
