Okay, so I know there’s no way around it. We must choke down our flaxseed oil daily if we are to “look good nekid”, especially if on a lower carb diet or a diet geared toward fat loss.
My question is this… How are you guys measuring out your flax to keep it as clean as possible. I work where I don’t have a lot of the conveniences, so the easiest/quickest methods are most preferable. Currently I just throw the bottle back for a quick glug, but I can’t really gauge how much I take in very well…
Personally I am a fan of flax and usually either put it on some veggies or something I pack for the day, or as of late I use a lot of flax meal in the same way, onn salads and such.
An easy option you could go with is pick up one of those small medicine cups @ drug store that has a lid. They are clear and have measurements on the side. Pour in what you want to take in that day, cap it and go. Then just swig it when ever you normally do but you know at the end of the day you have taken the amunt you wanted.
I read this on another board but haven’t used it myself. Get one of those baby medicine droppers, the bigger the better. Suck up the amount you want (probably only a TBSP at once, though I honestly have no idea what the sizes are on those things), then put the thing in your mouth with the tip all the way in the back, and let it go. At least in theory you shouldn’t taste it at all…though you’ll still enjoy the flax burps afterwards
Not sure if they have bigger ones that can carry 8-10 tablespoons but if they did, and they sealed to prevent leakage, that would be pretty cool.
Try mixing it with plain cottage cheese or yogurt. That’s what I did and it made it much more bearable for me to consume flaxseed oil or Udo’s. However, I’d recommend taking full spectrum of Vitamin E to help protect against the oxidation of flax oil in the body due to the nature of PUFAs. I sometimes consume virgin coconut oil which tastes a heck lot better…
i hate the taste of flax, but what you can do is if you can’t use a measuring spoon for some reason is before you go to work, measure how many capfuls equal a tablespoon and just use your cap as your measuring spoon…just make sure you hold your breath and chase it with something to get rid of the taste…
Kyle, when it comes to manipulating your body comp, it’s important to make sure things work for you as much as possible as far as TASTE and CONVENIENCE, both.
Capsules with flaxseed oil are more expensive, but there isn’t any reason you can’t take advantage of the liquid and capsule version, both. Use the capsules when you travel or are at work and use the liquid at home.
If you pick the meals you take your flaxseed oil, you’ll have less of a problem with it. It tastes great with scrambled eggs or tunafish salad. It actually tastes pretty darn good poured over the top of freshly steamed broccoli and then salted. Add it to balsamic vinegar, along with some garlic and fresh herbs, and you’ve got a wonderful salad dressing.
Get it in, yes, but don’t be choking down your flaxseed oil.
