'Flat Bench Press is a Sh**ty Exercise'

COOL!!!

Now, as soon as this becomes Powerlifting, we’ll hang that on the refrigerator door next to the finger painting you did of grandma.

It was grandpa not grandma.

It all works and I think the machine vs. free weight debate is juvenile.

If you like machine pressing nice, free weights, good for you. Many great physiques on the Olympia stage were made through different avenues of training.

…and we can pull much from watching them…which is why we are all noticing in them and ourselves that there are MANY who will not reach their true potential if they get locked into some mindset where they believe they need to do barbell bench press instead of pay attention to whether they are growing all over proportionately.

You have people here who have been where you are now several years ago. It just MIGHT be wise to listen to some of it.

I agree with you.

But if we are going to condemn a shitty exercise for being an injury risk (as the original OP implied), lets stop doing some of the others in addition to bench press that provide lots of injury clients simply owing to the normal mechanics of the task.

running (hip and lower limb injuries)
squats (knees and backs)
leg extensions (knees)
behind the neck presses (shoulders and necks)
upright rows (shoulders)
rowing ergometers (backs and hips)
cycling (ITB, knees)
deadlifts (backs and knees)
leg press (backs)

This is a serious concern, sometimes when I have to press O continuously, I have to hit the controller on my knee instead, so my knee can tap the O instead. Or move the thumbstick back and forth on the sofa.

Too much lactic acid build-up. Can’t be safe.
I was playing Wii boxing tonight, and my shoulders have never had so much lactic acid build-up…couldn’t raise my arm for a few minutes after playing…lol

Austin and I need to do a lot of things… <3

Cereally though, Wii Boxing is killer.
But I still made it pro.
Bow down to my greatness.

Yeah i could use a little somethin somethin

come to think of it, my chest did look best when I did a GVT cycle doing all those decline dumbbell presses and dips. I’ve always responded well to dips…

I do feel like the bench does a lot for my shoulders and tris as well as helping me develop a lot of power that transfers to other activities and lifts.

Goddammit im trying!!!

Maybe if you wore the Intensity shirt in your avatar you would get better pecs, fool.

I’ve not been able to bench for some time because of a shoulder strain, but dumbbell and machine work doesn’t aggravate it and is producing good results. I may bench again at some point, but I’m not obsessing over it, nor am I condemning myself to a life of a small chest because I can’t flat bench.

Do you call this a big chest?

I call it small and weak.
Like the mind behind it.

I definitely do not believe you condemn the bench press at all X, and apologies if that was inferred (my post was straight after so I can see how that may have been).

I appreciate the story you tell about your chest development.

The race issue is unfortunate. The country I’m from is relatively speaking excellent with racial relations (New Zealand), so I am hesitant to jump into that side of things.

I also agree with your last comment re; bodybuilding, and would also add not “do it cause its a complicated flash exercise”
I jump right into it because I know what I am writing is true. I am the only guy here who gets questioned as much about my profession and everything I write. There are other dentists here, other chiropractors, other surgeons…yet have you ever…EVER…heard even one of them get questioned about it as if they couldn’t possibly be one?

It doesn’t really bother me because I’ve gotten that shit since I first logged in and posted a picture. I just hate that people pretend that it isn’t the case.

In all seriousness, as a T-Nation, I apologize for all the ignorant posters. I think the LIGHT will turn on for them if they tough it out and train for a decade or two. I am glad you have’nt given up trying to help out where you can. I am not trying to nut-hug Prof X, I just agree with him most of the time, if you want advice given with a motherly , nourshing tone, you will have to pay for it.

ah yes, you have your own trolls now.

Tis a proud moment for you Bonez, tis a proud moment.

Some toolbox with nothing better to do with his time but sit in his mother’s basement masturbating with peanut butter, and log onto the internet and put people he is jealous of down… Awesome

Lol
