So, was bullshitting with a guy who works for the same company I do yesterday and it came up he was in a league. We got to talking ball and I said if he ever needs a pg on his squad to holler. Sho nuff, he just called and I’m playing in a game manana. I’m doing legs tonight, and somehow yesterday I managed to strain the shit outta my upper right ankle, but fuck it. 'Bout to grub, chill for a bit then go hit the weightroom, and foam roll and stretch like crazy for tomorrow. Don’t know why but I’m actually excited, haha.

Ha, from the sounds of it we might need ya. Ol boy said he played D2 ball in Dallas for a year so we’ll see. Hopefully after tonights workout my legs work.
Usual warm-up
Hangcleans-185x3,190x3x3
Atg squats-205x2x6
Ghr’s-3x8
Took some jack3d before the workout but didn’t drink enough water and spitting frothy white shit and getting light headed so called it after the second set of squats. Definitely strong enough for 225 plus, but even going atg I was rounding pretty bad on the way up. Need to work on strengthening my whole core so that doesn’t happen.

I might give 'em a shot. After the knee surgery I’ve almost exclusively used a box and in doing so basically brought myself back to square one in traditional atg squats. It’s frustrating to box squat 4 plates for reps but feel wobbly under 185 freestyle. Goal is to be back to 315 for at least 5 by summer.
You’ll get a full recap as long as the ankles I break aren’t my own, haha.
Legs are fairly sore but luckily have the day off so spent a good 20-30 minutes this morning stretching and foamrolling. Game’s in about 3 hrs, so gonna try and sneak in a nap. There’s supposedly some good comp in this league so I’m pumped to check it out. I’ll post back with results.
Well, that was a complete waste of time. I touched the ball MAYBE 10 times the entire game and couldn’t get rhythm. To add insult to injury, none of those dudes could really play. They just passed the ball back and forth to eachother until they were forced to jack up a 25 footer while I stood around like a goon. On the bright side, I put down some decent dunks in warm-UPS, which was cool 'cause I haven’t jumped or touched a ball in a few weeks. If time permits I might start playing on Wednesday to keep my game and legs from completely rusting.
That sucks dude. I hate that shit, while mostly playing pickup games at my gym Im usually alone and have to call next and get 4 other guys who know each other and only pass to each other, on a few occasions I kind of pop my top about it.

Yeah, it was pretty irritating. Not trying to sound like a douche but I was the best player out there by far. It got the point that with about 2 minutes left in the 1st half I shouted to the guy who invited me (who was on the bench) “dude, if it’s like this why’d you invite me out?” To which he replied “just play man”. My competitive side is still irritated but in the grand scheme of things who gives a shit. Just won’t go out for those cats again.

Dude, try playing as a post player in ANY PICK-UP GAME EVER.
If I rebound and block shots, maybe 1 in 3 games or so the PG will know enough about bball to reward me with some feeds in the low post after a few possessions. Usually I have to take myself out to the 3-pt line to get the ball, which is not where I’m most effective but if my teammates suck I gotta do what I gotta do.
But yeah man I feel you, those games suck. Personally I try to go with a buddy who handles the ball and knows me, so I get some action.

Haha, I feel you and Mattys pain. But, I’m a pg. At 5’10" in shoes I don’t have much choice. And, this wasn’t a pick up game, this was a league with regs, clock, etc… So everytime the ball came outta the net they’d give it to someone else. Not gonna lie, I’m pretty ball dominant but I’ve never met anyone who could stay in front of me, so when I’m in the lane either I get my own shot or when the D collapses I just dish it off. When I first came in (yes, I did not start) I had to get the rebound, dribble it up, attack and the D collapsed and I got 3 assists. We went up 6 after being down. After that, I touched the ball probably once every4-5 possessions and we ended up losing by 11. I pointed this out at halftime and got blank stares.
hey man, good lifting, I’m a basketball player as well and I started off with ws4sb this pre season as well as a total newbie haha. too bad, europeans don’t really do strength training lol
I’m definitely gonna follow your log and hope to learn a lot. I’m gonna start a program that I got from elitefts.com during the season next week and see how it goes. I’m new to the team I’m currently playing at and still have to prove myself to the coach.
How do you manage the balance between strength training and basketball ? I end up too sore when I lift a lot, which is obviously slowing me down at the hoops practises. Yet still I know I have to get bigger and stronger to get to the next level lol.

Hey bud, thanks for stopping by. I’m 29 now so I just play for fun, and yesterday was my first time touching a ball in probably 3 weeks. Keep that in mind when looking at this.
To answer your questions I gotta ask some of my own: How old are you? What’s your position? What level of competition are you at? How’s your nutrition? I gotta know these things before I can offer specific advice, but the one concrete message you need is that you’re trying to be a better ball player, not weightlifter. All weightroom work should be preceded with specific skill work, and weight work needs to be basic movements designed to make you a stronger, better ball player. WS4SB is a great program, but I personally found my best gains in strength and explosiveness using straight sets based on percentages taken just shy of failure and accessory work used to build up weak areas. Also, are you in-season right now?
^^How does a PG not get the ball? I’m confused. They have the 2-guard bring it up or just whoever rebounded it kept it?
We need to make an NBA replacement team for TN. You got the point, greg can be our 2-guard, Teledin can be the enforce off the bench, Sneed and I can bang bodies down low. We just need one taller guy so I can play PF and not get stuck at C.

Haha, they kept giving the ball to this curly headed goober who’s best move was a 20 foot set shot and was slow as molasses. It was really frustrating. I’m down, but remember I said I’m “ball dominant”, which is code for “I only pass as my last available option”. If ya’ll can handle I got point!
damn bro that sucks. You shoulda just taken over the game. Tell those tards that you’re the man and if they want to win they better fall in line! lol
Cant believe they saw you throwin down dunks in warm ups and then didnt give you the ball. What a bunch of dummy birds.
