Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

Contrarian opinion, but since this is flame free: bail on the sorority and do whatever the hell you want with people who don’t make you feel uncomfortable. A lot of people portray college as this big adventure - I disagree. My college experience was a heads-down grind so I could get to the real adventures awaiting post-graduation. I’ve never regretted it for a second. It’s ok if you don’t find your peops immediately. The camaraderie that will eventually arise from befriending people with similar passions will far exceed that of an expensive, forced social environment.

I’m quite uncomfortable with the social requirements but The girls are really nice, the house is very nice and I feel like I need female friends

This is how I’m trying to approach it, but from experience, I end up with no close friends. Luckily, I have found a group that share the same mentality… it’s just that none of them are female

I think you’re making the right choice in trying something new. I would like to throw my hat in with the others in saying I wish I’d made my college life a lot more social

I am on ā€œstay-cationā€ in Orlando and visited the pool today. I don’t feel so bad about my body anymore comparing it to the other dads there.

I just finished data collection for the pilot study in my project… I am SOOOO happy.
After weeks of delays, part 1 is finally done, but I am also dreading having to do part two because I have to reconfigure the entire survey

Vacations are an excellent opportunity to remind you just how little it takes to be ā€œabove averageā€, to say nothing of borderline incredible.

Tooting my own horn here, but out of the 15 or so dads there I definitely had the best built physique.
And mine is not really something to write home about.

Yeah, and you’re still driving to improve… After a certain point all you have to do is stay the same to continue to pull ahead!

Homeostasis FTW!

This!!!

We spend sooo much time training that we miss the fact that we are in the top 10% of the top 10%.

Good for you!

That, and learning to accept the inevitable evolution of the standard compliment you will receive–from ā€˜You look good!’ to ā€˜You look good for your age!’

I’ve gotten that at a couple of kiddos school friends birthday parties.

I have ambivalence about this. Especially when the one woman is talking about how old and busted up her dad is, and I’m like ā€œWait a sec. How old is old here?ā€

ā€œOh, he’s like, 45.ā€.

I have to give props to his cohost for not trying to sensationalize Dave’s emotions, for letting him process his thoughts, and for jumping on the segue when it was offered up. That’s a really tricky thing to have to navigate, and he did a great job of letting all of that play out naturally.

I’ve been much more tired and done pretty hard workouts, including a time where I was extremely jet lagged and started the workout by dropping the barbell and a plate on my foot

Need advice: Sorority is having events and they go 2hr past my bedtime. I didn’t get an exemption to leave early.
Should I take a risk and go to bed early anyways?

Would not seem a wise choice unless you are feeling unwell or something…
