Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

I get extremely irritable when I am tired and sleep deprived… This event is about making a good impression to potential new members…

At some point, people started referring to double progression as triple progression.

Now I have no idea which is which lol

If you are able to tell when you are irritated and would like to be less irritated, then this is something you can address. Though this might not be a good opportunity to practice @EmilyQ

Go to the event. College students are in general night owls. What time does it end? If it’s past 11 pm I would call it unreasonable. Other than that, try and enjoy it.

ends at 11:30, I’m conisdering just sneaking out at 9pm. The event is in the house and my room is on the second floor

Yeah, this is a bad idea and is a good way to get everyone to dislike you. Plus, the event might be fun if you let it be. Functioning tired is something everyone gets used to after awhile. I am sure no parent gets a full nights sleep more than 15% of the time.

fixed that for you

… yet another reason I don’t want to ever be a parent…

Either be in the sorority or don’t, but if you can’t make it up until 11:30 in college, maybe don’t be in a sorority.

I don’t even really know what double progression is. From what I understand: It’s common sense. I’m not reading an entire article explaining this in detail.

It’s like the first time I read about 531. Work up to a top set for max reps. Fuck, I’ve been doing this shit since I was 16 lol. That was like 25 years ago.

Isn’t the purpose of trying new things trying new things?

Get extremely drunk and lead a rebellion of kindred spirits in a race down the bunny slope on cafeteria trays at the local ski resort.

I’d have offered something more reasonable but that’s one of the few lingering memories I have of being your current age.

Give it a go, try and be present and not worry about tomorrow! You might find you love it. You might find it really awkward and that’s funny too.

Agreed dude. Sam Brown has been doing a good job in general in elitefts too

@anna_5588 the point is, if you’re really dead tired, you wouldn’t even have to make a conscious effort to skip gym lol

The event isn’t tomorrow, it’s in September. Tbh, I’m actually really excited. It’s a fun thing where we chat with potential new members and rate them.
It’s pretty much social/ communication training

I confess that for every hour I spend actually training, I spend at least a dozen obsessing over ridiculous “marginal gains”.

There’s a part of me that’s absolutely convinced that if I change to a different brand of lifting gloves (oh dear, that’s another confession right there) I’ll double my gainz, or if I change my bench grip to be half an inch wider my pecs will suddenly thrive like never before, or if I don’t have a protein shake within 13.75 minutes after training the workout’s wasted…

Current endless online “research”: I train within 45 minutes of getting out of bed in the morning. Usually I have a scoop of Huel and a hit of caffeine and I’m good to go, but now I’m agonizing over whether adding a banana will transform my workouts. I’ve been debating this for literally hours, whereas I have spent exactly 45 minutes in the gym today.

If there are lots of fluctuations and volatility, handling the frequent, marginal situations well is where the gains come from.

You’re gonna do the same shit, eating and training 100s and 1000s of times this year. You can get -2.5% or you can get +2.5% to your results in every one of those situations.

Do you happen to work in tech or engineering?

I’m head of investment performance for an asset manager. So my job is trying to figure out what is driving returns - pretty much exactly the same as trying to figure out which inputs affect training and how, just substitute Value and Volatility for Reps and Bananas :joy:

That explains a lot…
