Not just YouTube - end up on TikTok of IG and it’s way worse. I saw a “fitness influencer” who looked like they had never touched a weight in their life.
I try to stick to the known guys - EliteFTS, John Meadows (RIP), Layne Norton (he’s a bit annoying but watching the comments on the new studies coming out is useful), and of course this website.
Greg Doucette was okay for awhile, but he drives me bonkers now and his supplements look like garbage.
REBUILDING SUCKS! Hard to get excitied about progress when its not your first time at the rodeo. Makes it worse when you know you have to be conservative on things.
I got a taste of my own medicine (pun intended, or not? lol) today.
“No heavy lifting!”
I just nod.
In my mind:
Yeah but I need to lift this 500 pound weight off the floor!! because! REASONS!!
I’m still chasing this stupid 2 plate bench press! Because! REASONNNSSSSS!!!
To be fair though the rehab doc said don’t stop lifting weights. Just go lighter
I confess I joined the parental fitness class (mostly consisting of moms with newborns) yesterday, as an act of exception when time allowed. Similar to a light Tabata class with no jumping around. I know the trainer and participated primarily for social reasons along with my daughters. In the gym, my current protocol is heavy clusters on the big 3 lifts.
Today, I have the worst DOMS experienced in a long, long time.
This may prove that even the slightest difference in stimulus, may be enough. If I ever was such a thing as an alpha male, I am now broken…
I confess I fell for the temptation of buying an Exxentric Kbox flywheel device - as a personal 50 y.o. birthday gift (in advance)! Ridiculously expensive, but in all honesty, it was a second hand bargain at 50% of the new retail price - But it looks brand new!
I could hypothetically have bought a cheap rack, barbell with weights for the same price. As much as I would love to - There will never be enough space for me to fit such a roomy solution.
Maybe I should have posted this in the “gadget” thread.
The challenge of remaining driven; when you know you will never run as fast, jump as high, be as big, as lean, or as strong as you once were, is REAL. I feel ya!
That’s not terribly shocking. Most people don’t exercise in general. Those that do don’t tend to lift weights. Those that do don’t tend to bench press.
Bench pressing is honestly pretty niche. It takes a while to get good at it in general.
Online 5/3/1 has became a game of telephone . You got indviduals writing about it who havent read any of Weidlers stuff.
Funnier yet ive seen you tube creators presenting their own little tweaks on it. Addressing what they view as flaws in the program. The irony being they are going off the earliest version of the system. So basically they have only dipped a pinky toe in the pond and havent bothered actually diving in.
I just find it amusing these indviduals are panting themselves on the back. Basically because they are making modifications on perceived issues with the v.1 of 5/3/1. Which Wendler has already done.
