Just Curious asto What the general concensus here is on behind the neck pull downs. For Context, I have had a hunch back all my life. recently been going to PT for a C7 injury most likely slipped disc. PT made we do some behind the neck pull downs for scapular retraction and trying to fix my posture. Yesterday I did alight set after regular pulldowns And they felt nice. wondering if I should keep them in .thoughts?
Sounds like you should keep them if you have the time and energy after main work, or as part of a warmup
I confess that I told my advisor that Iām out of town without reliable internet to justify my lack of productivity
I never liked them, but that doesnāt mean much.
If theyāre working, keep at it! Good luck. Hope you heal up well.
Iām not personally a fan, but some people are very vocal advocates. I think it depends on body size and levers, Iād rather do a set of pulldowns and then a set of rows instead of 45-degreeing it.
Iām 6ā3 with long limbs, so going to the front feels better. Itās the same reason shorter guys trend towards sumo and taller guys do standard deadlifts.
If behind the neck works for you, it works. Just keep progressing.
Suboptimal
Me & Kiddo are really digging the 4th of July Rocky marathon on AMC.
Ah, memories!
Behind the neck pulldowns do a great job of hitting your mid back. Stuff like your rhomboids and lower traps. These are the muscles that pull your scapula into Posterior Tilt.
You can see this hunchback bro, his shoulders blades are elevated and dumping forward into Anterior Tilt.

All that good mid back, low trap stuff is working hard in this version of the pulldown. The shoulder blades canāt help but pull into a nice position.
Maybe pulldowns behind the neck are sub optimal for your lats, but they are pretty legit for other parts of your back.
Behind the back shrugs are another āsub optimalā lift. They donāt hit the big upper traps as well as common, bar in front shrugs, but they crush your low traps and scapula retracting muscles.

Oh nice! Yeah Iāll keep them in for a bit see if they help. Seems like exactly what I need for now. Need to strengthen those rhomboids! Thanks flats!
I feel like this is a good confession because itās going to be divisive.
I confess that, yesterday, I discovered that ghee and salt are THE beat chicken wing āsauceā you can come up with.
Yes, it beats out buffalo sauce. Go take your dressed up Frankās Red Hot somewhere else.
Yes, it beats out ranch dressing: that valley is hidden for a reason.
Seriously: get you some grassfed ghee and some redmondās salt and donāt look back.
I like wings but the standard butter/franks is really one dimensional. Thereās a Ton of stuf you can do to flavor them up real good, #1 being cooking with a nice crispy skin.
Everything after that is just extra (for me), but I also really like a dry rub or a spicy molasses based sauce to dress them up.
Oh my goodness yes: the best part and often overlooked. I achieve this with duck fat spray, which makes me giggle that Iām using the fat from one fowl to dress up another.
Whatās fowl is fair - I donāt think Shakespeare meant it this way.
Frankās has a dill pickle flavor out⦠I love it
Those would be plants thoughā¦
Way too awesome for just a like
I agree.
Jerk chicken for dry wings and chimichurri for wet is my current way to go.
I pick out the dill specs
Chimi is sooooo good on beef and shrimp
I have grown to enjoy seeing a unexperienced lifter modifying or Frankenstein a pre established program. To the point its barely recognizable. Run it for awhile with shit results and have the balls to bitch how the original program sucks.
