Anyone else here still grieving the loss of the Mountain Dog? His content was/is golden and so beneficial.
Rewatching a lot of old Youtube of his.
I owe John a huge debt of gratitude for helping me turn my heart health around.
I’ve finally gotten back into movies. But that’s not the confession.
I confess I use apps that aren’t on the playstore of our future overlords. Seriously. Zuckerberg can suck a dick.
And when using such apps, which I download because I wanna see the cam versions for the 1st 15min to decide whether to watch a damn movie in the cinema (look, anyone here who knows me knows that I’m not going to sit through a bloody cam version of a movie, let alone a movie I want to watch so no flames please. It’s the same as previews on YouTube but I do not trust the way these are edited given that shit I’ve done professionally affords me the useless ability to know exactly when scenes are rearranged in another other, cuts between dialogue from different timeframes and spliced together among lots of other stuff with just the lighting and filters ramble ramble ramble.
I confess I ramble too much
I also confess that an app I like using suddenly started showing me ads with interviews of male amature pole dancers describing how they overcame prior perceptions and overcame resistence and started learning it, Which is a fucking call to action, which assumes the viewer has already expressed interest and acquired some knowledge of the service being rendered (no pun intended, editor nerds.).
Which means the recommendation system decided I was already past - and this is a very basic breakdown - the awareness and understanding phase of a campaign and that I’m most likely to give the trial phase a shot.
Fuck.

Because self-flagellation is in our DNA. And I’m not talking about the Filipinos reenacting the Way of the Cross in the literal sense (google it). All our Water Margin heroes did this shit.
One, you might be familiar with, is the word kowtow. It is not an abstract term. It is practiced in it’s literal sense in temples - hitting your forehead on the floor. They provide thick pads for elderly women.
One of the first movies I HAD TO GO FIND AND WATCH was described by my primary school Mandarin teacher. It was about a chick who attained the equivalent of Sainthood because she cut herself limb from limb amongst various other acts of self (and assisted) mutilation when her mother or father was on his/her deathbed. She really did need help when she decided 2 of her forearms should be cut off at the same time.
This is why I conjugate with lions.
That’s intense. I had heard of kotow before but only jokingly i believe.
At least that’s temporary pain, christian guilt is forever (thought I don’t prescribe to that anymore).
Kowtow-ing = the harder you hit, the louder it is, the higher chance the diety you are grovelling to can hear you.
Not joking lol. It’s why the elderly women, whom are generally WAY MORE PIOUS than younger people needed the bloody pads so they didn’t knock themselves or get brain damage.
Fucking violent shit but nothing compared to Macabes.
The thing few people get is that this is Confucian fielial piety on steroids. Her rationale for her sacrifice was based on, “My flesh, blood and bones come from my parents. I will sacrifice what they gave me to save them.”. Sainthood.
Note that there was no bullshit about “honor”. ![]()
EDIT:
And now I’m finally in the mood to rant about Mulan. Because I actually read the fucking poem or whatever the fuck it’s called and it’s pretty fucking Southerner shit.
“Honor” is the real abstract term. It’s the somethingsomething ego at play which prevents you from not saving a drowing dog because said ego will not let you, which negates the assumption of heroism and/or selflessness of the act in philosophy stuff that I know very little about. @T3hPwnisher wtf is the term???
Regardless, the actual motivation was Confucian in nature. Because bring your parents “honor”, which in the literal sense would imply great pride being felt by the recipients though her acts, would not entail said recipients “mourning and weeping so loud everyone along the fucking Yellow River could hear them” on the night she departed.
It’s a pretty long river. Shit like that belongs in wuxia (kungfu fantasy tales where people can project their voices across 1000 li because of qi. That’s around 500 km.)

Korean stuff - Blood and Bone.
Actually I know balls about Korean stuff. All I know is that the movie Blood and Bone starring the awesome Takeshit Kitano is the funniest comedy I’ve ever watched since Cape Fear. And the cinema crowd kept shushing me because no one saw the kind of humor only Takeshi Kitano can pull off.
And, yes, Cape Fear was a comedy. A B grade flick in the vein of Roger Corman, for anyone who thinks I’m being “edgy”. Come on. There was a scene where the camera assumed the POV of the fucking wheel for steering the ship when the damn boat capsized. Marty was really having a lot of fun with this one.
I live with, and breath it every single day. I know what you mean lol.
I’m familiar with this concept but the specific term escapes me. You saw this a lot with Randian philosophy though: the notion that everyone always acts in their best interest and that there is no such thing as genuine benevolence. This argument, in and of itself, runs into the logical fallacy of BEING unfalsifiabile, which some see as a feature rather than a bug.
Always good to see you back dude. Shame we haven’t had any Starting Strength dudes to smack around.
I appreciate that haha. As for the philosophy thing, it was explained to me by an individual who was literally a “wannabe filmmaker searching for existentialism through a haze of bong smoke.” I believe meth was involved. I think you know I hate philosophy lol.
Altruism or altruistic?
I confess that I wonder what all of you do for a living, although I will probably never know because that’s understandably private.
I will be going to school for the next 5 years.
I fix people’s problems they didn’t know they had in ways they don’t understand.
Career student? I had enough schooling to make me never want to step foot in a classroom again for any reason.
I management the movement of somethings from somewhere to somewhere else.
yeah basically, I plan on getting a PhD.
I like research and learning stuff
Sounds terrible. 1 doctorate was enough for me.
Paying to do work is never a good time in my book.
oh interesting. What do you have a doctorate in?
if I’m lucky, I’ll get punted right back to Pissburgh as an AP
Juris Doctorate.
I actually thoroughly enjoyed law school. My MBA - not so much.
