Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

Do you believe people are incapable of doing so?

Much of the time, food stamps are really not that much. And they can be lost or reduced very easily.

My only semi-political post in this fun, flame-free thread is that pretty much all forms of welfare are usually nowhere near as beneficial as people often make them out to be.

I will die on this hill, haha. But I like you, @cyclonengineer, not trying to start an argument or anything.

Yes. Humans are inherently flawed and will never create a perfect world.

But now back to the fun stuff.

Why not try to get closer to that though?

I believe there are MANY problems that cannot be solved with merely time, money and intellect, yes. And this is one of them.

Or, if nothing else, not resources that exist at a Walmart level. The amount of resources Walmart would need to invest to deter theft to a meaningful degree would rapidly outpace profits lost from theft itself.

How do you propose to do this, specifically?

It’s painfully optimistic to think you can entice others to share your vision for the world.

Looking out for other people is a start (not to a degree where you don’t look out for yourself).

I kind of already do that

I worked at Walmart for 2 years during undergrad.

They didn’t treat me poorly. I was making $20 an hour when I left, but I actually always showed up and did my job and learned new jobs. We had a turnover rate of 80+% and what I saw were lazy entitled people no call / no showing, showing up late, not showing up at all, refusing to do menial tasks of their job correctly, etc. So, that is bullshit. I was already being put on the assistant manager track, but I did not want to work at Walmart my entire life. It was a steppingstone for me.

Multiple - trucking, storefronts, service. I treat GOOD employees well. Ones that actually show up and do their job. I am sure there are former employees out there talking shit about my companies too that were lazy sacks of shit and fired.

Walmart is literally a store where you go pick up your own stuff. I have never gone to Walmart thinking oh I am coming here for the service!

Okay you make a great point, I can stand those character traits either.

Businesses exist only for profit. Do you work for the betterment of mankind and no pay? Why would you expect businesses to?

Man, you would be surprised. One of my close friends has worked for Kroger for 25 years. He is a regional manager now for them in my area. Their theft is insane.

I don’t expect them to, it’d just be cool if the extremely large ones did, don’t you agree?

It’s easy to philanthropize someone else’s money.

I have no power over businesses so I can’t get them to do anything.

No. Why would that be cool?

Why do you want to give people things for free? We see how well that has worked out in just about every scenario.

I confess that my ā€œchillā€ last semester is about to be a lot less chill than anticipated. I’m ā€œauditingā€ graph theory and a friend roped me into studying higher level real analysis with him :joy:

I don’t know, this is a confusing topic.

It’s bad to give things for free, but inflation sucks

Wages may or may not support inflation, but someone could probably work hard enough to get out of such a situation.

I really don’t know tbh

Why do you do this to yourself?
