Good: I just mowed the lawn
FUCK THE GRE
The PI for the confessions project (Iāll be coauthor on if it gets published) reached out to me asking if I could help her with the next phase
I had to decline bc I have to study for GRE
if I didnāt have to study for GRE, I could use that time to help her
How do you study for the GRE?
There are study guides. Just like for the SAT, the LSAT, and the MCAT.
They are standardized tests, and there are study guides and hacks.
My wife tested positive for covid on thursday.
I confess I took my oldest son outside for an hour-long soccer practice (at an empty field with nobody in sight the entire time, so not exposing anyone) less than an hour after he tested positive today. It was just a cough last night and some congestion on his part today that alerted me to test him, but otherwise you really wouldnāt be able to tell he had it - super mild. If heās gonna have to hide away from all his neighborhood friends on his birthday weekend (it was his 7th birthday on Friday) and he feels okay, heās gonna at least get some exercise and fun with dad. Bunch of drills, a 1-on-1 game to 11 where I had it go all the way up to 10-10 and āletā him score the winning goal, which he did off of a sweet slide, and then he was still okay to do our traditional post-practice half-mile run.
Thank goodness we decided to have his birthday party last weekend, and he got all his friends there and had an awesome time.
The GRE felt like the most useless standardized test Iāve ever taken in my life.
canāt agree more
I understand the need for standardized testing, but the questions on the GRE straight up donāt test ability.
Seriously, if they wanted to test quant skills, MAKE THE MATHS HARD. Donāt try to play āgotchaā with things like asking for different units or something stupid like that
In the real world there is no difference between not knowing the math, and getting a wrong answer b/c you didnāt pay attention to units. Become detail oriented now, and youāll have a leg up on most.
I have to agree with Californiagrown on that one. Making mistakes with units may be the most consequential error you can make in certain fields.
The programs handles all that stuff for me but if I donāt actually know that um is bigger than nm then-
At best my manager or whoever is supervising the project thinks magick needs to brush up on his fundamentals and laughs about it.
At worst everyone thinks Iām an idiot and wonāt trust me to be detail oriented enough to be trusted with more important things.
That being said⦠isnāt the GRE super generalized because itās applied to so many different graduate programs? Thatās probably why a lot of the thing feels pointless.
I thought it was cool to slack for years during undergrad then make up for it in just a couple hours getting a good GRE score.
HOLY FUCK, I might have access to the āathletic gymā
Opens 6am on weekdays and 8am on weekends
This made me laugh more than it should have.
This made my morning coffee come out of my nose.
Thankyou guys for making me smile on a Monday morning.
I forgot about the insane Aussie time zone difference and just got second hand anxiety about it being Monday when, in the real world, it is still Sunday evening.
LOL you have to remember that I am talking to you from the future.
Did you dudes see āTenetā yet?
Truthfully, the GRE probably supported me more than I thought because my undergraduate GPA was abysmal. But I still think it is a good move for many PhD programs to no longer require it because at best I do not feel it is indicative of oneās potential to produce good work.
If youāre talking about the movie, I have seen it and it is very confusing.
Yes, saw it a while back, cant remember too much about it.
I was the same way with āMementoā
LOL yer saw that many years ago and i think it gave me memory loss. LOL
