Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

I confess that the act of cleaning my own skin from the center knurling of my new barbell makes me feel both disgusting and disgustingly hard-core.

What are you doing to get skin in the center knurling?!

I confess that I squat shirtless.

I confess that I do all of my workouts shirtless.

Hell yea! I’m surprised it got skin from that little actual movement.

I confess I tried to do a KB workout in a tank top a while back but am such a sweater that all of the extra sweat running down my arms made the workout significantly harder. I’m a ā€œshirtedā€ lifter.

My back has permanent psoriasis spots from where the barbell rests where I squat. And that’s WITH a shirt on.

I used a texas squat bar in a competition one time, and it practically chewed THROUGH my shirt into my skin. I can see why it’s popular with multiply lifting.

I confess I am unreasonably excited about some bison tacos I’m making tonight. And I just finished swearing up a storm in the middle of my office due to an amaznig hamstring cramp. Go zeno squats.

Me too. I also have shirts that look a bit thin where the bar sits.

Confession: I pored coffee in my lunch today. My prepped lunch today was terrible. I was kinda excited, cauliflower rice, broccoli, and grilled chicken thighs. The issue was forgetting to add a sauce to it. It was so dry, I was kinda struggling to get it down. So I added some coffee and a bit of peppermint mocha creamer to it. Was an improvement, but still bad.

Same, hard horrible skin on my back and a permanent line.

I can barely do 195 for 3 reps now. A month ago, I could do 90kg for 5

Either the plates at this gym are heavier or I’ve gotten fatter and weaker

Edit: the 45lb plates are definitely over 45lbs

Snap… me too.

I confess I felt a little dirty NOT picking up a barbell for today’s session of conditioning… that feeling will fade during 10k kb swings from next week though I’m sure.

I wish I knew how to play the acoustic guitar and piano, most beautiful sounding instruments in my opinion.

It’s never too late to learn buddy. Just understand that, like lifting, there is a learning curve and it takes a lot of time and practice to become halfway competent. Start on the small things like proper technique (which isn’t make or break, my guitar technique is pretty lackluster) and try to drill good habits into your brain/hands. Learn some chords and simple songs and expand from there.

The number one thing is that you actually have to want to do it

The guitar is not easy to learn, but I’d say it’s much more accessible to beginners than a lot of other instruments, especially stringed instruments

I confess I applied for a job last night that, with the pay range listed, would be a pay cut. I applied for it anyway, because under the ā€œperksā€ section the posting listed: amazing office gym. I have no shame and will ask for tour upon interview.

I’d just tell them that you currently are employed and can’t take a pay cut.

Then tell them that you would need to make at least X to switch (X is 10%+ more what you currently make). They will likely assume X is what you currently make.

I did this at my last switch, but I think I did 20% above.

 Did you find any pictures of it?

Brilliant, I will do exactly that. Everything is negotiable, right?

Yep, if they like you, $10K or something isn’t that big of a deal to most companies once you get past the low end jobs (not taking away from them, but pay is less negotiable for those jobs). It can be a big deal for the actual employee though (might be $500 after taxes a month more).

I cannot, I am hoping 3 treadmills is not their definition of amazing.

It most likely will be, unless you really luck out.

We talked about a gym at my small company, but it got shut down due to ā€œsafetyā€ concerns.

The group bicycle rides on curvy mountain roads where people get hit by cars fairly regularly are totally fine, however.
