Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 1)

Good Samaritan laws are laws that protect the helper if giving help causes harm to the victim. Ie you can’t get sued for breaking someone’s ribs while administering cpr

Ah okay. I really don’t know but I have heard of storys in which helpers got sued, even in emergency situations.

I wouldn’t help somebody if they were wearing an Alabama shirt.

I wouldn’t help if I don’t feel like I can.

In the case of medical emergencies, I lack skills and expertise-> I wouldn’t help

I would call emergency services though

I think that’s helping

Lots of stories of those in the US. Can anyone confirm if true? Any stories where someone trying to directly help has gotten sued for directly helping?

Every state has some form of Good Samaritan law. People are sued frequently, but it rarely holds up in court. There was a case years back where some lady paralyzed her friend by pulling her out of a car. It’s tough to tell if her insurance was gonna cover it. Judges usually don’t go forward with the cases because it would encourage hesitation, and split second decisions save lives.

Furthermore, if someone is unconscious, there is implied consent, unless they have a DNR. Even if the person refuses help while conscious and THEN becomes unconscious, they have then given implied consent (unless, again, DNR). So you’re good, 99% of the time. I don’t think it’s enough of something to worry about to not act.

I confess that I got onto that jacked white house chef’s YouTube channel and I am addicted. It is like every late 80s/early 90s movie amped up to 11.and rolled into one and turned into a cooking show*. Eg:

I was walking out of my estate to the main road, heard a loud crash, and saw a car had crashed into another car from the back.

I called the cops.

Now, there were 2 roads for separate directions. One was jammed because it was during the peak hour and the other had a free flow of traffic and the crash happened at the former, which almost completely stopped traffic.

I knew where the fire station was, which was right next to the nearest hospital, and I know the route pretty well since it’s a 3min drive away and I always pass by that place when I’m driving to the shopping mall.

I very calmly and specifically told the person on the line what had happened, the traffic situation, and to tell the guys coming to “turn right” when they exit their premise because that would lead directly to the free road and right to the crash site because I was anticipating there would be a fuckup since this was the civil service I was communicating with(only talking about the ones here, not in other countries). That’s it. TURN RIGHT. “Remember to tell them to TURN RIGHT”. 3 times. They would have taken less than maybe 2-3 minutes more to get there by doing that.

Anyway, there was already a crowd of people tending to the injured ones so I felt I wasn’t needed. I went off to buy my stuff. 20mins later, while I was walking back, I saw the ambulance and fire truck were still stuck in traffic around 200m away from the crash site on the very road I told them to avoid and the injured parties sitting on the side of the road with some others who had stopped to help.

I received a phone call from the police after that and asking if I saw the crash and if I could provide details or be a witness. I didn’t see the crash. I heard it and saw the aftermath but apparently I was the first person who called them. So I told the guy on the phone, “You really don’t want my statement. Go listen to the record of my call and you’ll know why.”

They never called me again.

There was even a high profile case. It was hilarious.

*to others, note that an admission of guilt in China at that time even in a civil case doesn’t mean the dude did it. I don’t believe he did it. If I were to tell you the weird stories I’ve heard about the legal system from my lawyer there, you probably wouldn’t believe me.

Here’s the thing. I’m cynical as fuck. But if you told me, for example, that the woman told the doctor(s) and nurses tending to her to exaggerate her injuries for a share of the returns, I would have believed you at the time. This was what it was like.

My dad was a search and rescue swimmer in the navy, and the instinct to stop and help has never left (one of his few qualities he actually possess lol). He’s saved a few, a couple times he hasn’t and they really messed with him. One time he came up on a freshly wrecked car and it was on fire. Two people trapped and badly hurt, he had to make the decision (after calling for help) of which person to try and save based on which looked more likely to survive. He got one out but both died.

I’ve never had to perform any type of first aid but am trained. I had to get up and start rushing to a guy in a restaurant who was begging for help while everyone watched, he cleared it against a bench before I got there. Shits wild

I’ve had more than my fair share of “have a go hero” moments. I 100% believe it will kill me. I’m vastly over confident in my own abilities.

Confession : I videoed meswlf deadlifting last night. And won’t share the video. For 2 reasons.
1 I really shows off how fat I am
2 my form is pretty poor. It’s amazing how far things slip with out monitoring.
