Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 1)

Do all the cooking and only cook that.

Actually, something that worked with my kid: mix it with Mac n Cheese.

A old Indian coworker I had loved beef, but the rest of his family didn’t eat it for religious purposes. He would open the windows while grilling to let the scent come in. His daughters started eating it. Pretty sure his wife was pissed though.

Mixing it with mac n cheese would probably work with my kids too. They both stated this week it was there favorite food.

I confess I’m jealous of a friends quad and calf size. He was a national level cyclist, his legs are huge. He does no weight training at all. On reflection maybe he got to national level because he was genetically blessed with big strong legs that helped him reach that level.

Mine too! Haha. Who doesn’t love it.

Got my kid to eat some pot roast that way, and I’ll be doing it with a tri tip later today.

I confess that as much as I try, I just cant eat grass-fed ground beef.

The steaks are good, but the hamburger is just horrible

That is all

I confess that I need to track macros if I want to lose weight with any success. Not because I over-eat, but because I absolutely tank the shit out of my intake and crash hard.

I fucking hate stochastic mathematics. I like probability in terms of managing tail risk, but stochastics…The introductory phrase ā€œlet’s assume a Poisson point processā€¦ā€ still fills me with dread.

I still do for work. I don’t mind, it becomes second nature after a while and is more elegant before it becomes applied into the messy real world.

Yes, and?

Econ major doing math and equations is a ā€œchild playing with scissorsā€ thing. Become a real engineer first, then learn the econ stuff afterwards.

After struggling in diff eq, no thanks :joy: I’m too lazy and value sleep too much

There’s a reason a large proportion of Econ grad students are math majors

I didn’t think any of the engineering courses I took were much more difficult than the math courses I took. Depends on the person though.

C++ was the only course I took twice. The first go around I dropped it. I completely grasp C, and in both rounds I had an A in the first half of the course that covers C. That object oriented bullshit though really had me scratching my head.

I struggle with 3-d thinking and visualization in general. From what I understand, that’s a pretty important part of engineering.

I also just don’t find it as interesting as Econ or behavioural stuff

Yeah… nope…

I took Micro as a general (probably have mentioned that before). I really liked it. I think it was the only class in which I read the text book fully.

I like freakonomics as a podcast as well as planet money.

Micro is the best! Unfortunately, after you learn the basic concepts, it’s a neverending string of optimization problems and proofs…
Somehow ā€œwhen things get expensive, people buy lessā€ turns into multiple 50 page research papers with appendices as thick as doorstops

YESSSS

Wait, what? If you’re getting super lean grass fed beef, the low fat content is why the burger doesn’t taste good, but the fact that it’s grass fed improves the quality and taste across all forms.

I confess I still have 3 finibars left out of the 2 boxes I got for that quiz thing back in September.

I find I still like the taste of grain fed beef more than grass fed in all forms, but I’m growing to appreciate grass fed more.

And I ate all of the original batch of Finibars, then ordered 2 more boxes and haven’t touched one. I plan to have one before my 10 mile race though, but otherwise don’t find I train hard enough to need one…

I like the ā€œgameyā€ taste of grass fed more. Grain fed just seems more ā€œblandā€, but could be psychological

I think most US beef is grass fed and grain finished. I don’t think most people know that. I was actually quite happy to know that the grain finished beef spent most of its like roaming the prairies before going to the feed lot for a month to fatten up. I was under the impression that the grass fed beef led a much better pre slaughter life than the grain beef. They are almost the same I guess other than the very end.

I confess I am conflicted about eating some animals. I don’t think it is immoral to eat animals in itself. I do think our treatment of animals is often not ethical. I don’t think we should be causing suffering to save a bit of money.

I have been considering sourcing my meat products locally. I would want to see that the animals live a good life without unnecessary suffering. I would have to visit the farm to see that.

I need to go over to the threadkiller thread.

THere is also evidence that the stress actually degrades meat quality and nutrient quality, maybe even low levels of toxins
