Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 1)

I confess I might not can count while I’m lifting. Been a hot minute since I recorded a squat, and I wanted to see how it looked. Was working with sets of 10. During the video I thought I got off by 1 so I did an extra rep for good measure. Counted the reps watching the video and it was 15 :tipping_hand_man:

That’s why I count by 2’s- brain can’t manage much more during a hard set :joy:

I totally agree.

Jimmy Page will always be number 1 for me. Followed by Hendrix and Jeff Beck. The rest consist of a weird range from Santana to Nuno Bettencourt and Marty Friedman.

I can’t understand it either. The only song of his I really like is the acoustic version of Layla. The only part I like from the original Layla is the piano part which was not composed by him lol.

Since the first time I heard Layla, my only thought has been, “that piano part was pointless and nearly ruined the song.” To each his own, I guess.

Yeah, I guess unless you’re some kind of music scholar, music is mostly subjective. Then, again, I once employed a pianist chick who used to play for the German philharmonic whatever it was and her favourite musician was the guy who played Kato in the Green Hornet remake:

EDIT:

Or was it Joe Hisaishi? Can’t remember. That was like in 2009. All I really remember was her hand was like half the size of mine but she had a longer thumb to finger span. Fucking freaks, these people.

I think David Gilmour fits the bill better. I know people who just disregard or even hate him for some reason. I’m not a fan of Clapton but I can understand why people like him and why some people may hate him for his “commercial” songs like Wonderful Tonight, but David Gilmour???

The solo from Another Brick in the Wall is like in one of my top 5 favorite solos of all time.

@whang i was watching an episode of house md where a woman nearly died from tapeworm infection from eating poorly cooked pork that caused an autoimmune attack in her brain.

I confess that I’m now a bit paranoid considering that I’ve eaten raw pork off the cutting board in China

Come on. It’s rare. A priest got leprosy in House md and saw Jesus floating above his doorstep ffs lol.

No shit- why would I be posting on the ffct if the fear was rational :joy:

I will now watch more House…

It’s a great show. The second last episode of season one was a fucking masterpiece in screenwriting and the last 2 episodes of season 4 came close IMHO. Just stop after season 5 or 6. I can’t remember when they jumped the shark.

I hate when shows go from content => personal drama

I think that happened in season 5. I just continued watching because of Oliver Wilde.

sunk cost fallacy?

For as long as I could remember, whenever I heard of a disease I didn’t know about, I’d look it up either online or in my dad’s medical dictionary. Don’t know why it took so long for me to “find” House. His attitude of “treating disease > treating patients” really resonates with me

Probably lol. I did love the Greg House character though. The scene I remember most wasn’t one of his “aha” moments followed by a brilliant diagnosis. It was him playing Wish You Were Here really badly on the electric guitar in the closing scene of one episode. Hugh Laurie would have won an Emmy every year if James Spader from Boston Legal wasn’t contending. James Spader admittedly deserved it, though.

Wanna know something crazy? I’ve watched every single episode of house except for the series finale. Never watched that last episode. No interest in it, either.

Spoiler:

He drove off on a roadtrip with Wilson after faking his own death.

Dumbest shit ever. But Oliver Wilde was in it.

Literally clicked on your spoiler in less than 1 second, am now happier I didn’t watch it - that was dumber than I expected it to be. Shows that don’t have a pre-determined story arc and continue for as long as they can keep making networks money are really fucked when it comes to rounding off a story nicely after having to keep developing all their characters over and over and over again, so I don’t have high expectations, but that’s hilarious.

Ranks right up there with Dexter’s ending.

see, that’s the kind of personal shit that really bugs me… and why stop watching most shows I start

The typical medical dictionary is well over 1000 pages long with <7pt font. you’d think there’d be enough content to last at least 10 seasons

That’s not why shows like that end, though - you can fit as many different medical diagnoses as you want into the show - how the characters react and the story surrounding the diagnosis and treatment is what gets played out. So, something personal has to happen eventually, and the story has to evolve. It ends up unrecognizable, and eventually viewership slips. After 8 seasons of “patient gets sick, house is a dick, patient gets better, house is a dick, patient relapses and gets sicker than before, house is a dick, patient gets better, house is a dick”, you’ve gotta pinch it off somehow.
