Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 1)

Isn’t salmon always cooked for sashimi?

Or is that only when caught in fresh water! (There’s a parasite problem.)

Sashimi is usually raw. There’s “torched” nigiri and sometimes tuna torched (but still raw on the inside) Eel is always broiled and mackerel is technically “cooked”, but it’s more of a ceviche type chemical cooking

I thought salmon was a saltwater fish

I just went back in my log to this time last year… I was running a PC program, and switched in zercher squats for front squats…

I confess it’s making me want to test my max zercher squat again. Probably one of the most badass lifts in my opinion.

You’ve not seen videos of salmon swimming upstream?

They can be. They’anadromous.

Trout (rainbow, brown, etc.) are just salmon that have been confined to a fresh watershed.

I’m going to go for leftovers as my favourite food.

During the week I mainly cook things like one-pot stews, and prepare enough so I have lunch to take into work. They always seem even tastier the next day - something to do with marinating maybe?

(Yes, I realise that none of the people on this thread will understand the concept of having food leftover after a meal)

My wife has been cooking for a family of 4 ever since we got married. That said, I’m always blown away with how much food is in the house when I start losing weight…

Red braises also taste better the next day.

probably, and also the meat is more tender. I guess the further breakdown of the muscle fibers => more flavour seeps in

Salmon fishing is saltwater fishing, yes. Salmon spend their lives growing in the ocean, then when it’s time to mate they exhaust themselves swimming upstream to spawn in lakes and rivers, where they eventually die from the toll of the journey. Then the babies hatch, return to the ocean, and repeat the process.

Salmon fishing only happens (or should, at least) at the start of the salmon run when the numbers are largest and the fish are at their healthiest. It’s regulated like any other hunt (moose, deer, elk, etc) depending on the approximate numbers.

I’ve had Arby’s exactly once, as a teenager with an iron gut, and it was the worst I’ve felt after a meal in my life. As far as fast food goes I’m always tempted by them because I love sandwiches, but then I remember what they did to me and I keep away.

I had a gyro from there for the first time last summer and I now go back monthly for one. As far as fast food places go, I’ve always (for some unknown reason) trusted their meat more than other fast food places.

Maybe your Arby’s was just a particularly dirty one. My Hardee’s was that way

Man, if we’re going to talk fast food elitism I’m about to throwdown.

Just keep in mind some of us less fortunate states don’t have good fast food. We have McDonald’s Taco Bell, check filet, Burger King, and whataburger, which is actually pretty decent. But no fancy in and outs or other cool places

You had me at Taco Bell.

Wait what state are you in? Here in Maine we have Burger King, Wendy’s and Macdonald’s and it was the buzz of the town when chik fil e arrived. That’s Bougie fast food.

Alabama. A huge shit hole of a state.

There was a Sonic in the part I was in, but we were pretty close to Tennessee, so I think it wandered over and forgot how to get back home.
