Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 1)

Pretty much exactly what scared me into running for the board - I’ve heard so many horror stories of them taking too much power and generally being awful about it. We had a legit potential nazi running for an open spot so I ran against her and won. Luckily we have 2 rednecks on the board (myself and one other) and one older guy that fits most of the descriptions listed above. 2 reasonable vs 1 power hungry is an OK balance for now :grimacing:

Now imagine those power hungry bored retirees having spent their teenage years as red guards under Mao and you have China’s version of HOAs

Excellent summary and describes my HOA perfectly.

Got a letter that my driveway was “dirty” (subjective, not real definition). I power washed it and they decided to take an “after” picture which was taken after a thunderstorm, in cloudy conditions, with a filter on the photo that made it look dirtier than it really was. Cut to - they decided to fine me and tried to charge me $1K. I had to have the driveway professionally power washed ($160 down the drain - literally) and then they did me the “curtesy” of reducing the fine to $25.
We also get letters if the grass is “too long” (again, subjective with no enforceable, measurable length in the statutes).

The only benefit is that it prevents your neighbor from painting their house raspberry pink and parking rusted junkers in the lawn.

Edit: There is no recourse in the rules though about going after the lady whose dog pees in my yard on their walk everyday and has killed off an entire corner of my lawn.

They exist. There’s one in my block of flats, however none of them are technologically literate enough to have facebook or the like.

It’s the same kind of people who join neighbourhood watch schemes or object to new things being built because it ruins their view.

@cyclonengineer wait, you guys give them actual power to fine you and things? That feels like a massive shitting error.

It’s all too common in Florida. Almost all of them have that kind of power. I would run for board, but I am afraid I would end up actually punching one of them for being complete a-holes (my wife was on the “compliance committee” for awhile, and they (i.e. the retirees on power trips) kicked her off for refusing to fine the single mom whose with young kids whose lawn was a little bit long).
The HOA was in place long before I moved into the neighborhood (mostly for top rated schools).

Yikes. Egregious abuse of power on that one and glad to say we’ve never let anything like that happen…I’ve actually had a pallet of bricks sitting on my driveway most of the summer. Pretty much we wanna keep it just nice enough that resale values stay OK - no pink houses and no mis-matched sheds, no old tires stored in the yard, things like that.

Edit: We have actually had to do quite a bit of enforcement on eyesore sheds and trash in the yard…they made houses so cheap to fill in the remaining lots that you could buy one here with no down payment for less than you could rent a shitty trailer in a really rough part of town. Guess where the people that made fun of the blind woman live…

We have the same problem with the dogs though, there’s a really nice older couple on the corner a little ways from me that wake up to dog shit in their devilstrip (Akron slang for tree lawn) every morning.

I know I am not as knowledgeable about training as many on here, but the frequency thread is grinding my gears. Twice a week for great results? This is essentially what I tried to do in college for awhile and all I did was lose muscle.

To each their own. I had better results with twice a week than once. Doesn’t mean either is superior

True,
I agree everyone is different. However, two working sets per exercise per week I know would not be effective for me.

I know he is speaking from experience, but I have a hard time buying his particular brand.

I see what you did… very sneaky.

But im keeping my thoughts to myself at the moment.

That was the recommendation in the post I was referencing.

I’m glad to see the H.I.T. Jedis crawl back out into the light of day.

I’ve been so concerned with Ripplestiltskin that I forgot all about their mind-tricks.

That new sub-Forum with the legend I’ve never heard of seems even more pointless than the Figure Athletes one.

What really got me was the “One True Expert” part

Although, I did find the “history lesson” quite interesting and very entertaining

Who wants to guess my personal opinion on something from 40 years ago? That’s history, right?
