Gyms have reopened in the UK. But not the gym I use. Because the gym I use is unmanned and very small (1 squat rack, 1 bench, 1 pull up station) they cant impliment social distancing or cleaning after every user.
So I’m stuck. I can join another gym but part of the reason I go there is its ALWAYS empty. I never have to wait for equipment or get rushed. AND because its attached to a rugby club there is a bar next door. Which is nice.
Best protein bars for me are Grenade carb killa. They have about 12 flavours and all of them are great except the “birthday celebration” one - which is fine because I give those away whenever anyone in the office has a birthday, and they always think I’ve been wildly original.
They are shit, but taste good. It’s basically a chocolate bar (we can edit this to candy bar for the american release), that I can persuade myself is helping me gain.
Dark chocolate and raspberry is the best, although special mention to the “jaffa quake” (see what they did there?).
In my experience, 24 hour chain gyms are as close to empty as makes no difference outside of normal hours. I’ve trained early morning or late at night at various branches of “The Gym” and it’s almost unheard of for me to not be able to immediately get the equipment I want. As long as you don’t want 12kg dbs, you’re golden.
Slight caveat: CoVid may have changed this, I haven’t been back yet to find out.
Yeah I have a genuine pro gym 15 mins away from me. Owned by an ex pro strong man and female power lifter. I go there sometimes but not often. As its VERY busy. But if I’m gonna go anywhere its gonna be there.
They are doing bookings only. So hopefully I’ll be able to finish my squats without some crap bag asking if they can use the rack.
It’s a great strategy really. This way, I don’t feel too bad if the feelings aren’t reciprocated (they most likely aren’t) and if they are, I won’t feel bad when it ends
I’ve always been curious about them, and I can’t ever get an answer from people on this: how do your guts handle them? They have more sugar alcohols than any other bar I’ve ever seen, and traditionally those run right through me. You have any issues with them, or do they settle well?
Never had any issues at all, except they really do taste great, so I struggle to only eat one a day.
If they’re NOT as healthy (i.e. no sugar, non-fattening) as their marketing claims, this could explain quite a few highly disappointing aspects of my physique!
Am I the only one who admits to himself that all of these protein bars are glorified candy bars?
I switch up my bars based on price and availability at Sam’s. I also try to stay close to 20g of protein per 200 calories. Cliff Builders miss in that aspect but they’re tasty. Actually, they all follow that pattern - more calories = more sugar = better taste. Candy bar.
I’ve tried several and thought they were less than awesome only to find that I liked them by the time I finished the box. I guess they’re an acquired taste.
Nope I like them and will put them in if I have the calories (and money!) to spare.
I confess I sometimes eat things just because “I can get away with it” ie half a container of raw honeycomb (aka pure sugar) or the occasional stick of butter. I’ve also been experimenting with mixing protein powder with various fats. Turns out cream cheese and lard are great!
Perfect protein bars are my favorite. I have a monthly subscription. Actually taste like something and don’t have the fake sugar crap. I believe they use honey to sweeten.
