Fixing low energy levels

Hey guys,
I’m a 19 year old guy and I was wondering if anybody could help me with this problem:
A lot of the time for some unknown reason I suddenly just start to feel tired and fell sort of “dizzy”, finding it hard to concentrate. This happens especially when I play basketball. After a few minutes of running around, i’ll feel totally drained and find it hard to keep up with everyone else. This is really annoying because I really love playing basketball and hope to get into the big-time, but this takes out both the fun and my performance ability. I was just wondering if anybody new some common causes of symptoms like mine. I take multivitamins and i also take brahmi and ginseng/guarana before each of my basketball matches.I try my best to take care of my health. My parents blame it on the fact that I don’t eat meat and my doctor wouldn’t do much more than reccomend some some of vitamin or something. Oh and one more thing, sometimes I wake up after a fairly long sleep and still feel totally drained. Any help would be greatly apreciated.Thank you

Sometimes after too long a sleep, you can feel sluggish. Some protein would surely be helpful too. I found that if I ate (earlier in life) refined carbos or sugar before exertion, I would suffer a real energy drain due to the high insulin response.

What are you eating before games? Try eating some low-GI carbohydrates with some protein and fat an hour or two before the game (or however long you need to avoid stomach cramps). Also could be a hydration issue. Are you drinking water during the game?

Sleep is a funny thing. I feel tired when I get too little OR too much. So a fairly long sleep can leave you feelin groggy, too.

Symptoms sound very much like low blood sugar.
Eat every two-three hours, and either follow a low carb diet,or at the very least a moderate carb diet, avoiding high GI carbs, except post workout.Always take a post workout drink after intense activity. And start eating meat!It is the most nutrient dense food out there, rich in protein,carnitine,carnosine,creatine,b-vitamins(including b12),iron,zinc,etc,all these are very important in energy production, and are either not present or found in low amounts in most non meat foods. What is the point of taking esoteric herbal supplements while neglecting the basics? Also be sure to get adequate fats, mainly in the form of monounsaturates and omega-3’s.
You may also find your sleep improves just from this, but I would also make sure you dim the lights in the house at night to help get the melatonin flowing, and another thing I have found to be really helpful in nodding off is including some tryptophan rich nuts like sunflower or walnuts with my last meal for the day along with a small serving of carbs-after my meat of course!

You probably just need to eat more food. Those symptoms tend to appear when one is dieting or in negative calorie balance. You could also be deficient in iron due to your avoidance of meat and your feelings of dizziness.

Might be hypoglycemia. Too long without caloric input, and your blood sugar goes flop. you can have your doctor test you for it. it may be an extreme thought, but if you do indeed suffer from it, it is good to find out as soon as possible. hope I helped.
