Oh, and once again, is anyone ever seeing this in reverse? Are there bodybuilders on this site going into the conditioning and combat forums telling those guys they should all work on their biceps peak more?
Road running when you are a 220+ lb bodybuilder can be hell on your knees, especially if you train your legs 2+ times a week. Also I was unaware that the goal of bodybuilding was to have a “beach body”. And one last thing, most successful bodybuilders do a lot of cardio but it’s the slow boring treadmill bike stuff that everyone shits on yet the biggest/leanest guys on the planet do loads of it and it seems to work fine for them - go figure (maybe that’s Kai and Jay’s secret - marathon running, lol).
Running makes my knees hurt (and I’m not even close to 200lbs yet).
That’s good enough to make me not run as part of my training. Plus, I never got anything more from running than I did from walking to university every day (30 minutes at a brisk pace while carrying all my food and gym stuff with me) and eating reasonably.
You claim Bodybuilders should run approx 20 miles a week.
You Dog HIIT Training
You think a marathon runner( I dont even care WHO you said) is swole
You think Bodybuilders shouldnt Bulk
you think Marathon runners are Shredded
-Most bodybuilders dont run…period. Aside from the inefficient form of fat burning, there is too much stress placed on say, the knees.
-HIIT is awesome. Fantastic way to light up dormant calories.
-No Marathon runner is swole. As a matter of fact, they are the Anti Swole. They are the Diet coke of Swole.
-Because bodybuilders can hit 300lbs without bulking AND running 20miles a week, right?
-Marathon runners are actually NOT shredded. They are flat, they are deflated, they have no fat, but they also have NO muscle. They consume muscle as much as they consume fat for energy, and the result is that they look like stick men.
shicks - you don’t need to run miles on end to be lean, you don’t have to run at all infact. You should be aware though that sprinters have lower % bodyfat than marathon runners.
John Mcallum suggested bodybuilders should run or at least jog in his keys to progress series. I think he suggested ten minutes per mile was respectable for a bodybuilder, but he recommended, I think, running for 15 minutes about 3 times a week.
I personally don’t jog much anymore, I use kettle bells for conditioning, but when I do use the treadmill I do HIIT which works just fine.
I have found running to be totally not necessary in my pursuits. all it ends up being is calories in vs out and that can be fixed by diet. And i don’t think most would care if you were even a professional marathon runner because this is bodybuilding and yeah they are way different.

By “reasonably” I meant eating enough to keep gaining steadily. Roughly 1 kg/2 lbs per month right now and seeing if I can push it further and gain more muscle and not just fat. I’ll happily gain more fat (I am gaining some now) IF it is a consequence of adding more muscle too.
I should have been clearer - I forgot the word “reasonably” now means “not too much so that I don’t lose my hawt abz”.
Who’d of thought that going from “anorexic” to normal gives one merit to bash how bodybuilders cut?
I remember going from 130lbs to 150lbs and I wouldn’t dream of saying what works best for staying lean while preserving muscle (despite having a shredded physique).
There’s a world of difference between trying to preserve/gain muscle when much heavier compared to being small - hell, I was practically eating nothing with a very active lifestyle and STILL maintained muscle when I was much smaller than now.
That’s not to say that what the OP says is completely false, I do see the advantages to intensity and sprinting…but you definitely have to “tame it down” compared to what the OP is saying.

It’s disingenous to tell bodybuilders, who strive to elevate their bodyweight by hypertrophing muscles, to run. If you want to run, keep a lower body weight for the sake of your knees, hips, ankles, etc
Not sure why this thread hasn’t been deleted though

I was actually just joking man

Sorry, had a tough week (or several) and am a bit touchy.
Bodybuilders don’t need to run like a marathon runner bc they let their diet do the cutting… didn’t notice anyone comment about that. Also, you might be able to run less if you ate 30 less bananas a day, same goes for 3000 cal pasta… to get shredded that is.
Troll maybe? Never showed his face again…

Blackaggar actually said that. Running just creates a deficit during the time, which can be accomplished with diet instead.
