first of all who exactly decided what defines “fittest man”? secondly as much as I despise crossfad those are some impressive numbers. Id like to know what steroids stack he uses. There was a lot of debate about crossfit and PEDs recently on ironradio podcasts and their facebook page. I also went to a lifting seminar hosted at a crossfad box and was surprised when all the guys openly admitted to either using steroids and or knowing that the top10 crossfitters are using as well. I was surprised about the crossfitters using steroids because I had a lot of preconcieved notions about them.
Saw a piece on Froning last year where the interviewer asked about steroid use and Fronings exact response was “I don’t see how they’d help in Crossfit”. Obviously he can’t admit to being juiced to the gills for a variety of reasons, but thought that was just plain dumb.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he used EPO or other forms of blood doping as well as steroids to improve cardio
Think he got $250k for winning the games on top of a ton of endorsements and sponsorships to go with it, so I’d be willing to bet that he (and everyone else who’s competitive) would do anything they can to gain a competitive edge.
Not to mention He is pretty much a god to crossfitters

Makes sense. Aside from dominating the CF scene, dude’s built like a tank. I’d be willing to bet that the majority of posters on this site aspire to a comparable physique.

Froning is a stud.
Anyone who doubts PED use by any top athlete is naive as can be.
EDIT: I could have sworn he was a S&C coach at Tennessee?

He also runs a D1 S&C program.
The guy is the man.

damn that would make a lot of sense. One of the things I hate crossfit for is that the popular way of portraying it is leading people to believe that to look like that or perform like that you must practice crossfit and only crossfit. like doing your WOD every day.
But if this dude was a S&C coach then you know his foundation didnt come from crossfit.

Think it’s like Middle Tennessee State, or something like that. He’s definitely not the S&C coach for the Vols.
Got a lot of respect for the guy’s accomplishments for sure. But calling him the Fittest Man in the World is a bit of a stretch. Best CrossFit athlete, sure.
It’s like when Outside Magazine calls the Olympic Decathalon winner the Fittest Man in the World.
I do CrossFit and read Outside Magazine. Every “culture” of sport or recreational activities has their Gods and Heroes. Personally, I think The Rock is pretty badass.
I’ll definitely agree that the top Crossfit folks are damn cool to watch and definitely possess a combination of strength, speed, and stamina, but has anyone ever sat down and watched the TV show ‘Ninja Warrior’? Damn some of those dudes can be argued as being pretty damned fit. Of course I guess you’d really have to define what ‘fit’ actually constitutes.

I would really like to see some of the top crossfit guys try the Ninja Warrior thing just to see how they would do. Seems like it would be right up their alley honestly.
An I think Froning was either an Assistant S&C coach or and intern at Tennessee Tech. If you watch the way that him and some of the other top crossfit guys train, most here would be not recognize it as crossfit because the crazy stuff isn’t really in there until they start preparing for comps. If you trained for Crossfit by doing Crossfit only these guys would crush you.

I bet he’s stronger than that. Those are basically my numbers. I saw Rich in passing at the Arnold this year. He’s short lol. Shorter than me, but basically the same weight and much leaner. Also I assume he’s on gear. I would guess he can lift more than that, but I suppose I don’t really know for sure.
All I know is I need to get to fucking work so that fucking Crossfit athletes aren’t as strong as me, roids or no roids.

Most crossfit athletes at that level are former D1’ers who never made it to the next level. Pretty sure most of these guys have plenty of experience with power training and the like. Would be pretty unwise to assume that they are not some strong pound for pound mofos doing this for a paycheck and another chance at some atheletic career.

Agreed on The Rock.
He’s obviously strong and skilled in a variety of sports and he may meet the greatest criteria for fitness…the ability to pass on his genes.
How many women want to sleep with The Rock compared to the Crossfit guy or some fishfaced runner?

I would say every crossfitting female on the planet woul give her left tit just to touch Rich Fronnings balls! He is the modern equivalent of how Don Johnson was to 80’s chicks who followed miami vice, remember that designer stubble…
Was chatting to a well known trainer about the whole Crossfit scene lately and he had a couple of interesting points.
First he pointed out that all the top crossfit guys tend to be similar somatotype (height, limb length, etc) as they have the advantage for crossfit games type exercise. Not exactly mindblowing but but peaked my interest.
Second thing he mentioned was that virtually none of the top crossfitters do WOD’s when preparring for the crossfit games. As I dont do crossfit I kind of found this interesting, especially considering the buzz around injuries from the high rep training in the WODs.
Perhaps some crossfitters can confirm this?
