Hi…I’ve started to supplement with some good fats and was wondering which is better …I got 2 bottles from GNC one which is pure fish oil and another which contains omega 3 6 and 9…also…I already take 3 tablespoons a day of olive oil with my meals …should I be taking the fish oil capsules with these meals also…or is the olive oil and fish oil capsules too much???
Omega 3 only is better than 3,6,9, because you are supplementing with 9 and I am sure you are already over-consuming 6s due to environmental factors.
You should add saturated fat to your diet so gobble up on grassfed beefs or add virgin coconut oil. I’d say use flax seed oil but I don’t know if it works well in obese people due to the way the body processes omega 3s into EPA/DHA which might not be as much as leaner people. Fish oil is an excellent omega 3s and can be used by anyone. We get more than enough 9s in our diet so no need to supplement it. It’s the 6s that we tend to overconsume. We just dont take in enough 3s to keep the ratio of 3s to 6s as close as 1:1. Anything outside of 1:4 is not healthy. Modern american diet is like 1:15, up to 1:50! No wonder alot of us have health problems…
On this topic, how many fish oil caps does everybody use? Can anybody recommend a good brand name to use? I find that most of the ones in my local stores are full of other crappy stuff that I don’t want too much of.

I just started taking fish oil this week. The brand is “Origin” and I found it at Target. 1000mg/70 softgels. The directions say to take (1) 3 times a day with food.
Yeah I’d like to know too (brands I mean) I know TT once said something about molecularly distilled fish oil caps…how do you know if they are prepared in this way?
I purchase mine from LifeExtension. It’s a great site with lots of health info.
snippdawg, pretty much anything that is over 60% EPA/DHA by volume is molecularly distilled as you can’t get that type of potency any other way.
Here is a list of good brands:
Carlsons Liquid Fish Oil
-good potency and cheap
PBL Omega3 Liquid and Caps
-pretty much the strongest on the market but not as cheap as Carlsons
NOW Super EPA
-Cheapest of the high potency caps
OmegaRx by Dr. Sears
-Very high quality/potent product but can be a little pricey. Dr. Sears coined the term pharmacutical grade
If you are canada:
Natural Factors RX-Omega 3
-Potent and cheap but I have never seen it on american vender websites.
All these brands qualify as pharmacuetical grade and are molecularly distilled. IMHO this is the way to go. The liquids all taste good and are probably more economical than pills. With these brands I can get 4 grams of EPA/DHA from 6 or so caps while it would take something like 15-16 caps for most other brands.
Hope this helps!

I usually use 9 capsules a day of fish oils (prefer zone perfect brand or my local trader darwins brand (yeah thats the name)
My diets are mostly around 25% fat added, half from olive oil the other half added from butter but of course around 10% more from meat fats as well for a total of 35% fat in my diets (excluding the workout drink aka surge or simular)
Just realize that if you’re shooting for 6-9 grams of EPA/DHA per day, you’re going to have to take the amount of capsules needed to equal that amount, assuming you’re not eating any salmon.
Some caps have much more EPA and DHA than others, but none are near as concentrated as the oil; much cheaper.
I like Health From the Sun Ultra Omega 3
Drink some Grow! , shoot the fish oil, chase it with Grow! MMMMM!!
I use 20 1g capsules of Sams Choice Members Mark. I tested it for quality of n-3:Saturated fat by placing capsules in freezer for five hours and cutting them open (per Sears recommendation in Omega RX). They were still liquid, so that’s a good sign.
Of course they could still be loaded with toxins according to Sears, but at 15g of n-3/$1, it far exceeds Now brand at 4-5g/$1 of Now Brand and 6.25g/$1 (before shipping)Carlson’s Cod Liver Oil.
I use a brand by Nordic Naturals Omega-3. it’s molecularly distilled, says it on the bottle. 2 caps a day and the bottle lasts for 30 days. runs me about $14.
Carlson’s Fish oil. 1 teapoon has 1600mg of Omega-3. Of that 1600mg, it has 800mg of EPA and 500mg DHA. Plus it has a light lemony taste. I like the taste 100 times more than flax oil.
…Speaking of fish oils, when the hell is Biotest going to release their super essential fatty acid supplement???
I take 2 -3 Tbls of Udo’s Perfected Blend Oil. It has a balance of 3, 6 & 9’s. It tasts good, you can add it to your salads or mix it with your night time shake, this slows digestion. Everything I add it to tasts better with than without, and you don’t need to take all the pills.
I do have a question. Is the Udo’s not as good as fish oil? Is it lacking something?
