I have recently become interested in supplementing with fish.
I realise how good it is for fat loss and inflamation and would like to clear up a few things.
I didn’t realise until reading the Flameout article how important it was to have the right ratios.
I cannot get a hold of Flameout where I live and it would cost to much for me to ship it here.
I have found a GNC store that sells DHA fish oil with a 2 1/2-1 ratio of DHA to EPA.
However I have recently started eating according to the rules of the zone diet and noticed that Dr Sears promotes a fish oil on his site that has the complete oppossite ratios.
I have spoken to one of the expert forum members and they have told me to read his info on fish oils from one of the books, but I do not have one.
I’m finding it very confusing as to what ratio to take.
I’ve been under the impression that the quantity of DHA is more important than the ratio of the two. I believe that guys digest the two differently and end up needing more DHA than females. The advantage of the gnc dha product or Flameout is that you need to take less of it in total to reap the same reward. Any fish oil is beneficial fish oil… I wouldn’t lose sleep over the issue.
any thoughts from some of the more experienced forum members?
They’re just chemicals, regardless of which ratio they’re in, your body will consume them with respect to the limiting reagent. EG. if your body needs both at the same time in a ratio of 2:1 (DHA: EPA) and you have a supplement that is 1:1, it will simply use up all the DHA, and there will be left over EPA.
That said, certain ratios may improve the efficiency of a certain brand over others, but saying you “need” them in a certain ratio is simply untrue.
