I would love to be able to buy Flameout, but unfortunately I think it is a little outside of my budget.
When I’m looking at alternative fish oil supplements what should I be looking for? I know that Flameout contains much more DHA than EPA and I can’t really find anything similar elsewhere.
I found one bulk fish oil supplement that contains 19% EPA and 13% DHA and 40%+ omega 3. Thoughts on this ?
Also, could someone point me in the right direction to learn about fats ( I don’t understand the difference between EPA , DHA , and Omega 3 …)
I get my FO from Trader Joes: 1200mg ‘fish body oils’, 400mg EPA, 200 mg DHA. Completely flavorless and no problem with fishy burps (just take it with your first mouthful of food).
EPA - better for controlling inflammation and heart health
DHA - better for brain health and muscle building
My advice? Save your money and buy a quality fish oil like Flameout
Low quality (i.e. cheap) fish oils utilize poor sources and contain additional crap (especially no name omega3s) and do not undergo rigorous testing for heavy metals - which could produce a large problem in the long run.
some studies/experts suggest a higher amount of epa than dha. the exact opposite of Flameout. it would be interesting to get an update from Biotest on the latest research and whether they still believe their formulation is better and if so why.

Monsanto will be making omega3s from soybeans soon, not to worry!
Just buy the Flameout and take half the dose. Even at half you’re still coming out WAY ahead of most standard fish oils. Not to mention you are getting the CLA that is also in Flameout.
Get 2 bottles (you get a break on price with 2 bottles) and they will last almost 90 days at half dose. If you really want to cover your bases, check out FA3 as well.
Between those 2 supps you basically have your fats covered I think.

Belief is a very strong emotion.
Personally I would ne interested in more scientific evidence in what an appropriate ratio between EPA/dha really is. Flameout may have the best ratio but I don’t just blindly accept things sale man tell me.
When my wife was pregnant and breastfeeding I gave my wife lots of Flameout because it’s high dha. I would even put some in his bottle when he got older. It’s a good product. It’s just a mater if it could be made better.

Martin Berkhan did a writeup on the research of fish oils and i believe he concluded that 2/1.5 EPA/DHA ratio provided the most widespread benefits. He also concluded EPA was the acid that most benefited males and DHA for women.
