Fish Oil and Omega 3s

so i guess a couple questions.

my girlfriends relatives start off skinny like no other then after pregnancy they get really fat then cant get it off easily at all. she is worried this will happen to her. does something like this have something to do with insulin sensitivity? i heard that was corrected by fishoils and omega3s

next my girlfriend is afraid of pills and since fishoil usually comes in large pills that aint going to work. are there any smaller pills for fishoil or another means of getting a lot of O3s without the pills?

Afraid of choking on them I’m assuming? Carlson’s sells a very good brand of liquid fish oil. (Taste may be a factor here). Far from being hereditary this could be a dietary pattern. My guess is they never really had the appetite to get fat till they got pregnant and after the fat loss methods they tried sucked.

Insulin Sensitivity might be an issue, but we’d need to see the big picture of dietary and exercise related routines and behaviors.

where would i find this liquid fishoil? im guessing walmart or drugstore?

it was after her mothers third kid. for the first two she got down to her original weight (around 100-110) but after three she couldnt. they are a farm family and eat pretty healthy. for exercise her mom was a belly dancer.

Try a whole foods or “nutrition” store, they’ll have em, but they’ll be damn pricey. If cost is a big concern, just google “liquid fish oil,” i think you can get 16floz of carlsons for like 20 bucks, should last a month or so.

do any of you think the fish oil will help how the body reacts to the pregnancy thing?

You only need 4 Flameout per day. Thats two with a meal in the morning, and two with a meal in the afternoon. Not too bad. That said, the liquid fish oil is good, too, if she’s not going to take a pill.

Also, is she preggers now? I think I remember somewhere reading that fish oils are AMAZING for pregnant women. (Apparently, [from what I remember] even more so than they already are for everyone…)
Anyone else want to chime in?

i heard that mothers with high omega 3’s when preggers have smarter babies. really cool if you think about it.

there a company called nordic naturals that makes a strawberry flavered super concentrated omega three its new it may be hard to find. but one gelcap is has the same amount of amega threes as 2500 mg of fish oil and is about a third the size.

its called ultimate omega just make sure its the new one or the pill will still be big

Yeah growing fetuses need DHA to help their brains grow well. More DHA = more intelligent kid.

I don’t know if the fishoil will be targeting the route of the problem. Seems more like a hereditary thyroid thing from the sounds of it. You may look into the ways of counteracting hypothyroidism through diet.

As far as exercise is concerned one could do alot better than belly dancing. Also I can think of certain farm foods (think corn/grains and potatoes) that are not optimal for keeping the weight down.

Lean meat, essential fatty acids, and loads of vegetables are the ticket as far as getting lean goes. Consume less than you burn (but not too much less, and burn a lot) and there’s not much that can get in your way that isn’t a serious health condition.

Does EPA have any effect too?

I really dont know where to start of the thyroid nutrition stuff since i know little on the how the thyroid effects oneself.

Here’s an interesting article on fish oil and kids: http://www.jonnybowden.com/articles/2007/12/helping-your-child-excel-in-school.html

You could try getting her the kid fish oil chews mentioned in the article, my guess is it is easier to take than the regular kind.
