August 4th I competed in the 8th Annual Smitty’s Iron Works meet. It was held in the Midland Resort in Midland, Michigan. I’ve been training for this meet for about 6 months now and it was a totally surreal experience.
The night before we were able to sneak into the convention center and I was awestruck. I weighed in the night before at 179, so I was very happy. My friend who was also competing with me and I went to KFC and I got grilled chicken coleslaw and beans. Then I went to bed around 10 o’clock. I was so excited that it took me like an hour and a half to fall asleep.
I woke up at 6:20 and started getting ready. At 7 I made my way to the convention center and I got my equipment checked and signed in. I weighed in at 176 so I was totally in the clear! After weigh ins I went to McDonald’s and got two oatmeals and an orange juice. Then I went to warm up but I was completly freaking out. I was super nervous and also I had lost my foam roller. So I wasn’t able to warm up as I usually do but everything felt amazing.
I opened at 314 (the meet was in kilos) and it was super fast and smooth. My second attempt was 330 and that was even better. Then my state record attempt of 358 came up and it went amazing, looking back i probably had 363, but i’m not regretting anything.
Then bench came up. My first attempt was 209 and that FLEW up. Then i went 226 and got 3 whites. I let my dad lift of for my on my third attempt because he was so hyped up the day of the meet I really wanted him to be apart of my second record 248.
Deadlifts came up and I had a slight pain in my groin but a women there let my use her foam roller which was awesome. My first deadlift was 385. 3 whites. Then 418 which went great. Then 440. I was so ready for this lift that went I grabbed the bar I knew I was going to get it. It was a ten pound Pr. Thanks for all your guys help in preparation to this meet I really appreciate it.
Jesus fucking Christ, when you said that the meet was in kilos and that you opened with 314, I was like “Jesus fucking Christ this 181# 15-year-old just opened with 700 pounds…” I was so fucking confused.
After watching the video, though, I have to say that I am no less impressed. Great lifts, man.

My thoughts exactly!
Nice work OP. What’s next for you? [/quote]
Thanks Guys. My next meet is going to be the state meet November 3rd. I plan to compete at 181 again and want to go into my third attempts without the fear of failing. In other words I really want my third lifts to be tough and I want to set the Deadlift and total records, as well as break my old bench and squat records. Then I want to make it to the next raw nationals that I will be able to go to without to much transportation hassle.
