Heavytriple's Meet Writeup: 1521.4@196.6

SPF Own the Day
London, KY
9/13/14

So I did a water load from Monday-Wednesday, getting all the way to 2.5 gallons. Thursday I ate a pound of cod and drank a protein shake at noon, then didn’t eat or drink after that.

I weighed in at 196.6 Friday morning, then yolo’d the rest of the day. My nightcap was my favorite premeet meal of a 16 oz sirloin and baked potato, and I ate a bag of donuts for dessert.

Squat
462 (no lift, high)
501.6 (3 whites)
518 (no lift)

462 was so easy and fast it almost threw me off, and that was with a weak wrap. Of course it was also high. From all 3 judges. In SPF. After contemplating suicide, I remembered that two of those judges were Brandon Lily and Caitlyn Trout, and this wasn’t your daddy’s comically judged typical SPF meet. 501.6 was a better wrap, I sunk it more, and it wasn’t particularly hard. My wrap slipped on 518, and I didn’t make it through the sticking point.

I was being wrapped by my friend’s boyfriend, and he didn’t have a lot of experience, but even with that it was much better than wrapping myself. I’ll have a vet wrapping me at my next meet. I hit 515 in training, so I think I was good for 518, but I accomplished my primary goal of squatting 500 in competition.

Bench
391 (3 whites)
418.9 (3 whites) Danny Amon on Instagram: "419 Bench"
440.9 (no lift)

Opener was a smokeshow. 418.9 was easy. 440.9 is the only lift really chapping my ass after having some time to reflect. I wanted 200kg so bad, and I blew it off my chest. Hit a sticking point about halfway, then second-winded it another quarter of the way up, but I somehow couldn’t lock it. This one I wish I had to do again. 435 in training wasn’t a true max, so I’m definitely good for this weight.

Still an easy meet PR on the second attempt, though. Should have gone with 424 just to get 420+, but that’s splitting hairs. Had a great handout guy. Pete Rubish goes to my gym and was going to do it, but since he was warming up for deads I went with a friend of his…Corey something.

Deadlift
541 (3 whites)
600.9 (3 whites) Danny Amon on Instagram: "601 Deadlift"
611 (lol)
Put in the token opener that have me a meet total PR. 601 wasn’t easy. 600 felt easier the week before, but obviously the conditions here were a lot different. My grip slipped a little, and that slowed the lift down, but I was finishing this lift or castrating myself. I gave 611 a shot, but I had completely gassed myself already. That’s another weight I’m confident I can hit in the gym, though.

Lessons
I put 80 pounds on my total from May, and I hit meet PRs in every lift. Deadlift was even technically a .9 pound all-time PR. So I’m happy with my performance, but annoyed that I missed all three of my big attempts. I’ll think about that bench every time I’m in the gym until December, and I sure as hell am going to get it then.

The water cut worked well, but I need to start with more on Monday I think.

I did something different and squatted semi-heavy Tuesday, benched semi-heavy Wednesday, and squatted light on Friday. Theory being, if an Olympic athlete does a moderate workout the day before an event, my much less developed fatass better be able to squat 365 the day before a meet and not hurt my performance. And in fact, I’ve never felt better squatting in meet conditions, so I would recommend this to anyone who is 2x weekly or more squatter.

Moving forward, I’m pretty pumped. I’m doing an SPF meet in cincy in December, and I have designs on 1600, which will start to put me into the conversation of being a pretty decent 198. I’m not sure what the records are, but I think I can crack the top 10 in bench pretty soon. Goals are 525+/440+/620+, and I should hit one of my thirds to get that 1600 total.

I’ll be going to 3x weekly squatting either this week or next, and I can’t wait.

Sounds like you had a pretty decent meet, thats one helluva bench at your weight class. Im probably also going to that SPF meet in cincy @242. Do you know if its too early to register for that one? I know it will fill up fast

Powerful stuff!

Thanks, bud!

That’s a good question. I almost always register late, so I’m glad you brought it up. I’ll dig into that when I get a chance.

Nice results!

BTW, in the 198’s on Powerliftingwatch, you would need to hit 451 to make top 10 bench, and 440 would put you in the top 20. You should be around number 36 after your 418.9.

Very nice job!

How much weight were you able to put back on after weigh in?

Danka!

And I appreciate you looking that up for my lazy ass. I was thinking 455 as a big attempt, so that solidifies it.

That bench is insane. Nice job. What’s your normal bodyweight?

Thanks, my friend!

I’m not entirely sure. I float between 201-203 in the mornings, so I didn’t lose too much. I’m guessing I topped out at 208-210, at most. That’s the heaviest I ever get at the end of the day.

Thanks!

And I guess I answered this in my last post before I saw yours. My goal is to get under 200 before December by continuing the cut I’ve been on all summer.

Guys, the best part of this meet was that I stayed under the natty limit of 1600. I can keep lifting a little while longer!!

Pulled 0.9 over genetic limit. Definitely fake-natty.

Awesome meet man wish I could bench like you :frowning:

Nice work man! You have my exact goal lifts with 500/400/600. Great benching!

You must be between 5’6" - 5’10" to be so close to the natty limit.

Outstanding work. Good lifts at any height.

No for these lifts to be natty he would have to weigh ATLEAST 350lbs, trust me my uncle is a scientist. And we all know that SPF drug tests you before the meet to make sure that you are on gear.

Appreciated!

My other two are lagging behind because of a knee surgery two years ago, so they just need more time. Luckily, the more frequent I squat, the better it gets and the better my knee feels. I also lost about 6 weeks of deadlift training after my last meet because my back was wrecked so bad. No such issue this time
