First Home Gym Setup

I am kicking myself for not buying this two weeks ago when it was $100 cheaper, but with 0 reviews. Now it has all 5 star reviews and is $230. 1100 lb capacity is pretty heavy duty.

I like this website. I have gotten some pretty good tips from Brett.

I’m not super familiar with what you’ll have available for you in the US but I’ve heard rep fitness has good bars. I’m actually using a bells of steel / strongarm sport power bar which is nice and budgeti enough. Coop from garage gym reviews is US based and has reviewed many a barbell.

As if u can wait that long… live that instant gratification life

Ye, probably could’ve saved 40-60 bucks but ended up going Rouge, figure it won’t matter if it lasts for 5+ years which I expect it to.

God damn, calling me out like that. I’m almost certainly going to buy more plates as soon as I get everything else setup but figured while I was ordering I might as well tack on some somewhat reasonably priced plates

Make sure you check our Rep Fitness too for the benches – I have the AB-3100 and it is great. It has close to powerlifting bench specs and the quality is really good. It is out of stock at the moment but it looks like they are getting more tomorrow.

For any OOS equipment you want to buy, I’d set up a dstill to hit the page so you know the minute it is back in stock – for some suppliers stuff was selling out before the email notifications even went out to people who had signed up through the supplier’s website. (Note that I think dstill isn’t working with Rogue.)

Huh, had never heard of dstill, that’s pretty cool stuff. I half considered creating a script myself that would do that. How are you aware that bench might be in tomorrow?

The equipment ETAs on reps website show the next shipment is coming sometime between 11/13 and 11/16.

Very cool, I missed that entirely. I’ll check back on that, I saw that their flat bench won Garage Gym’s test. Thanks for pointing that out.

For $60 this one looks pretty good (only flat though). 600 lb capacity.

I did this as well. Opted for a lot higher quality wood than he recommended though. It’s help up very well. When I built it I had some vinyl cut of some slogan to “make me workout harder” lol and then put a few coats of thick clear or what ever it’s called over it. When I moved it was a PITA to get the screws back out, I was actually going to leave it and donate it to the new owners but my dad got them out as he didn’t want to leave it. This go around I decided no clear, just wood. Still had plenty of grip.

Home gym equipment is kinda a slippery slope tbh. You’ll probably ending up adding little bits to it over time anyways including stuff you may not truly need need. Hehe speaking of i fancy an SSB

Good to know, the longest I’ll likely be in this place is 1.5 years, so removability and re usability definitely matters. Kinda has me leaning toward something easier but a friend wants to help me build the platform so I may end up going that route

I’ve already had to stop myself from buying like 6 accessories. I bought clips and bands. Going to have to make a rule about how frequently I can add stuff.

That being said, you should get an SSB, great for the shoulders and changes the movement pretty significantly.

I don’t need reasons hehe. But in all seriousness I’m gonna get under an SSB a bit myself when I visit the big city again now that COVID travel restrictions have eased and then make the final decision.

It’s super easy. Zero cutting (except for the horse stall mats, which is easy). I’d definitely recommend quality ply wood though if you’ll be taking it apart and moving it. I don’t remember what the article calls for off hand, but it was some pretty cheap stuff.

I just glanced but I think it was particle board, which isn’t going to last through a lot of screwing and unscrewing.

I mostly hate Facebook, Walmart and advertising but this gave me a laugh.
