First Contest ~ My Prep Log

Definitely agree with this, the legs are the one muscle group that doesn’t look better pumped. I haven’t used the method myself, but some BB’ers advocate performing eccentricless (sp?) training during peak week, as the lowering of the weight is the part of the movement typically associated with “muscle tearing” and the microscopic damage caused by weight training.[/quote]

I have personaly done this and I don’t think I suffered any ill effects.

Here is a video of some different eccentric-less exercises with a tire sled

I have a few more recent videos if you are interested on my youtube channel, plus a DIY tire sled video.

@ Tim ~~~~ funny that you posted when you did, because at the same time, I was devouring your first “mock cut thread” ~~~~

http://tnation.T-Nation.com/free_online_forum/sports_body_training_performance_bodybuilding_thibaudeau/thanks_ct_these_methods_work?id=4111421&pageNo=0

(which I had not seen before).

I was looking at your depletion/ carb loading strategy ~ and the weight loss it generated, and I was thinking I might consider changing my initial plan of “doing nothing special” to what you did instead.

What all did it require?

Have you seen my actual contest prep thread?
http://tnation.T-Nation.com/free_online_forum/sports_body_training_performance_bodybuilding/first_bodybuilding_show_april_2012?id=4712693&pageNo=0

Lots of good discussion and information in there.

OK, your question. No offense, you seem interested in the protocol for weight loss, but the point isn’t to lose weight, that was me screwing it up (twice actually, lol).

If you read the last page of my “mock” thread you’ll see that I could have handled more carbs and probably more water as well. CT even told me that I could have carbed up more.

Further, if you scroll halfway down page 16 of my real contest prep thread, you will see my thoughts on the peak week. It is long, but if you take a few minutes to read it, it will really help you understand the pros/cons and let you make a good decision for yourself:
http://tnation.T-Nation.com/free_online_forum/sports_body_training_performance_bodybuilding/first_bodybuilding_show_april_2012?id=4712693&pageNo=15

But if you still really want to do what I did, here are some explanations:

Near the end of this page (12) I outline what I did in 2012, look for “PEAK WEEK”:
http://tnation.T-Nation.com/free_online_forum/sports_body_training_performance_bodybuilding/first_bodybuilding_show_april_2012?id=4712693&pageNo=11#bottom

Videos on the following page (13) showing what I do during depletion workouts:
http://tnation.T-Nation.com/free_online_forum/sports_body_training_performance_bodybuilding/first_bodybuilding_show_april_2012?id=4712693&pageNo=12

Neat the top of page 3 I mention what I did in 2010:

Thanks Tim:

I’ll check all this out.

But to answer your question about the desire to come out of the contest leaner, I interpreted your prep week as a deplete before a big “SkipLoad.”

Anyway, the idea of coming out of the contest leaner than when I went in was appealing ~ because I’m not lean enough yet (no definitive Christmas tree, etc.), and I’ve got another contest coming up Sep 7 ~ for which I do hope to have the desired level of fitness.

Also ~~~ TANNING !!!

I’ve been snooping around. The air brush tanner takes 3 coats (2 the evening before, and one before the show). You can’t wear deoderant because it will turn your underarms green, etc.

Sooooo, I was thinking about using DreamTan as an alternative ~~~ One coat, patted on, and wiped off with baby oil and a shower ~ and you get to “not stink!” Plus it’s $35 less expensive.

The ‘rub’ is going to be getting someone to apply it… My wife is just barely hanging in there. If I asked her to do it, it might be the request that turns into the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Anyone ever been in this situation, or have thoughts on the matter?

You will get leaner by just following your diet. The deplete and load is not a method to get leaner, rather it is about manipulating water; pulling all possible water from the subcutaneous region into the muscle cell. It is NOT about fat loss.

Further, if you are not lean enough, which you may not be, it will not even produce visible results.

My weight loss was not a sign of fat loss, but rather me screwing up and depleting too much and not taking in enough water and carbs during the load. Please don’t try this plan.

Okay ~ I’m sticking with my “nothing special ~ keep following the diet plan” ~~~~

On other fronts, last night, I dreamed I had a Christmas tree. Wow ~~~~

So, here are a full set of poses (symmetry & mandatory)

Right Side

Actually, since this is taking forever, I’m just going to post the video link to the whole thing on youtube…

Side Triceps ~ I hope looking a bit better.

Here’s the youtube link to the entire posing session (hitting all symmetry and mandatory poses). Why in the world it is sidewise, I can not tell. Maybe if you turn your video monitor on its side it won’t be so aggravating? lol

This is from this evening ~ cold. I wasn’t focused on transitions ~~~~ so that’s why they suck. lol I was actually just trying to ‘hit’ the pose. I need to work on those transitions though. Thanks in advance for your assessments & suggestions.

You’re definitely getting there man…still a few weeks away, but I think you’ll be right on schedule for your second contest, and you’ll be fine for the first one. Only thing I’ve got for you as far as posing is not to strain so hard…better to flex 80% and to look more relaxed, smiling, steady, etc. than to to hit a pose 100% but be shaking and looking uncomfortable. On your abs/quad pose, try taking in a deep breath at the start of the pose and slowly blowing out your air to fully contract the abs.

Also, I like your side relaxed pose a lot…that’s a good one for you!

Least you pointed out the transition work. Fall straight back into your relaxed pose, keep upright, avoid the big exhale at the completion of each pose.

Keep up the good work though. How far out? I think we are shooting for similar dated shows…

No problem! It’s a lot of reading, I hope you enjoy it and get something out of it.

Pwolves and JumpNZ had some good feedback.

Side Chest and tricep look nice.

Tim has probably amassed enough knowledge to begin coaching… just my 2 cents.

I was thinking about the straining ~ and thought I was okay, but you are correct, I am shaking some…

The abs/ quad pose is my ‘problem child’ right now. Lots of things going on in that pose…

Yep, that big exhale at the end is designed to keep me from passing out! lol Seriously though, I’ll work on it, as well as getting back into my front relaxed.

My first show is this weekend. I’m not lean enough, but I’m competing in the Novice & Masters of a natural contest. It’s funny, I was looking at some videos from another Natty contest, and I’ve got to say that many of the competitors in the Novice Class in that particular comp looked better in many ways than quite a few of the competitors in the Open Classes (there were tons of guys with a lot of size, leanness, stage presence). Hopefully I won’t get blown off the stage too badly.

After the contest this weekend, the next scheduled contest is Sep 7 (an NPC National Qualifier). My newly hired coach is pushing me to skip the NPC show all together and head into the offseason to get nasty big. lol I think I might wait to make my decision on skipping the Sep 7 show ~ I like the idea of doing it, but my diet needs a bit of work. I’ve been at 1800 calories for too long as it is, and the new coach wants to get my metabolism & caloric intake cranked back up…
