It seem every coach has a diffrent opinion on how much weight can be gained in a year. Most are geared towards lean beginners with no muscle at all.
Is it posible for me to gain 30 pounds in one year? Will diet and dedication out weigh all of the cons?
I am 22. I have shitty genetics. I just lost 40 pounds of fat, still have fat to loose but am getting too light.
I will be starting my first bulk in 2 weeks, by that I mean following the same diet but adding cals weekly. I will do less cardio and start with bill starrs 5x5.
I never had a good build but defintaly had more muscle last year before my shoulder injury.
All odds are againist me.
This post is all over the place so please bare with me. FLAME AWAY ha
Yes a healthy 22 year old male could gain 30 pounds of muscle in a year with very hard work and lots of good food. Whether you can or will personally is impossible to know, but I believe most could. I know I could if I were starting over at that age knowing what I do now.
If you had 40 pounds of fat to lose it doesn’t sound like you’ve got shitty genetics. It sounds like you HAD a shitty diet. Most people who gain fat easily will also gain muscle easily (relatively speaking). Train hard and eat clean. Put the weight back on, except this time it should be muscle. For how long that will take, who the hell cares? Just keep at it.
I was getting the genetcis thing from looking at my parents, and other family members. no muslce, no athleats all were fat and unhealthy most of their lives.
I have a solid year planned out diet and routine wise. So aslong as I do not get any more injuries, I am set.

I was going to say this. Too bad the most level headed dude on - Nation said it first… Alright so I’m on Scott’s bird… If Prof X can have a bunch of little cronies in his fan club, why can’t Scott?
You know what? Fuck that, I’m starting a Scott M fan club. Anything he says from now on I’m gonna back whole heartedly and piss on anyone who disagrees. I can’t wait for the next Prof X debate to start. Me and all the other Scott M fanboys are gonna run amuck on you pussies.
As far as genetics go, I believe Mike Mentzer said something once to the effect of:
You will never know how far you can progress until you have actually pushed yourself as far as you can progress.
What does that mean? It means stop bitching about limiting factors that you have no real clue of. It’s called a self fulfilling prophecy, you’re already making excuses. Go make gains!
