Firefighters - Any Out Here?

If following the “sheeple” keeps me from being cynical and ungrateful then yes I will.

These are just a few that die and I didn’t even add 911…the daily part is because daily they COULD be put in a dangerous situation. Why oh why am I bothering to argue semantics with you…I am done. Have a good night.

I did reply to the rest of it, we posted at the same time. I would have posted sooner, but had children to put to bed.
We have differing opinions on heroics. Mine happen to include random acts and vocational choices that knowingly put one in danger. Semantics. I also think my husband is a hero for putting up with me…you may not…

I do not consider myself “sheeple” I am not mindless. I am capable of independent thought. You don’t know me and aren’t able to accurately make that assumption.

At any rate, it really is nothing in the grand scheme of things. I believe, you believe…who really cares eh?

Think we should give them back their thread?

I still say you wear a cape and mask everywhere you go and then you too can be the darling of mindless little girls whenever you do something good.

We know why we do our jobs and what our jobs entail. I for one do my job because I love it, I do not expect anyone to think of me as a hero or anything else.

I do expect the same respect you would give to any other human being – I believe in the case of tuffloud that would be about zero.

And not all firefighters are men – in case you have not noticed there are women in this field. I do not expect brainless women to fall at my feet, nor do I want them to.

Oh no! I said something negative about firefighters! Shame on me!

I stated some facts about firefighters. Facts that happened. But everyone, turn your head and look the other way because all firefighters are heroes, because that’s the way it is and that’s the way it’s always been. Nothing ever changes.

I’m glad that you enjoy your proffesion and if you are really that way, thank you.

However, all the firefighters that I have met in my life have been arrogant, conceided, know-it-all jack asses. That’s the truth.

“Facts that happened.”

So I guess you are as guilty as they are, since you were there?

Tuff- Try not to let the actions of a few douchebag firemen sour your opinion of the fire service. I can’t speak for all departments, but the department that I work for expects us to keep busy from 7:00am-5:00pm at least. Most of the time my duties carry over till past 9pm. Sometimes it sucks, but hey that’s the job.

Like I said, I can’t speak for other departments, but I keep pretty busy. I come into the station at 5:30am (my shift doesn’t start till 7:00am) so I can get my workout in and not have it interfere with my day.

Truck checks including maintenance and inventory, repairs on the station and the trucks, fire safety education programs in the schools, preperation for and delivery of classes at the academy, building inspections, medical and fire trainings; these are some of the duties that fill the typical day at the house.

All of these are in addition to the alarms of the day (and when I say day I mean 24 hrs, this includes the time when the rest of the world is sleeping). Oh and don’t forget to write the reports and take care of the paperwork that the day generates. Lord knows the fucking department floats on a sea of paperwork.

I don’t list all of this as a means to impress you, nor do I think I’m the hardest working dude in the world. I’m simply trying to state that not all firemen are sitting around picking their nose and waiting for a call. What sucks is when I put in a hard shift and have to hear people say “all you do is sit around and play video games”.

Sure that’s all I do.

Umm…So you are saying they didn’t show up on duty with a fire truck at a Porno Ball??

I would not know - I was not there nor did I hear anything about it here in Texas.

It was all over the news with video footage smart guy. It’s kind of hard to deny that.

The next question would be - If they were on duty, how in the hell do you have that much time to take a fire truck to a Porno Ball? Not only that, but they wouldn’t be able to respond to calls in a timely manner, or at all. What if someone was really in need?

Did you remember hearing other charges in another instance of 3 firemen forcing a women to perform oral sex on them IN A FIRETRUCK? How the hell do these guys have so much time on their hands. Shouldn’t they be out being heroes instead of rapeing women???

Really all over the news – your statement was the first I had heard of it at all.

Your day sounds much like mine…and I agree it is tough to listen to those who say all you guys do is sleep and eat! Yeah right.

Tell that to the husband of the lady we did cpr on last shift.

I’ve never heard of this incident either.

No kidding. I think I speak for most firefighters in that most of us aren’t looking to be a hero and don’t think of ourselves as such. We simply want to be good at what we do. However what we do is sometimes viewed as heroic by the public.

Yes, that must mean that it never ever happened.

I am just curious why you are so adamant on trying to drag this occupation through the mud.

There are plenty of examples of people in every occupation that act un-professional and un-ethically at times. Don’t use the actions of a few to judge the rest.

Could you provide some more information on this incident. Seriously I would like to know more about this. Maybe some links perhaps?

hey guys this thread was supposed to be about people in the fire service, how they like there job, and any ideas or advice they may have in regards to people like me trying to get in to the service. Noone cares about this scandal, thanks.

well how about you make another thread tuffloud, that isnt the purpose of this one. thanks.

That’s the beauty of internet forums and freedom of speech isn’t it?

By the way, the people who are discussing the scandals obviously care. So you saying “no one cares” is incorrect.

[/quote]

Right, not on this tread we don’t.

if you want to talk about that, than yes. This thread is to aid those trying to get into the service. Thanks for your understanding tuff.

oh scratch that, you changed your identity.

As stated previously, what profession is without scandal. Clinton got a blow job in the Oval office. Its just that firefighters and people in the public eye make nice targets for the media. Sensationalism, not journalism.

Your information says healthcare as occupation, how about all of the nursing home rapes that occur each year? I know, you will tell me that you don’t work in a nursing home. And I will tell you that not all firefighters are the same.

I had never heard about any of this and my brother is a firefighter so I am constantly on the look out for fire related information. But I saw that you provided several links to information.

Step back and realize the service these men and women provide for us, and the amount of money they get paid. Doesn’t quite make sense or even out. Even if a firefighter sat around the firehouse all day (which they don’t) and only fought one fire a week, their job would be 100 times more “work” than mine (physical therapist) ever would be. I often say that being a firefighter is great work until you have to actually go out and do the job.

Living in Chicago you hear a lot of sirens and every time I am on the street and an engine/ladder passes by I swell with pride knowing my brother does this job. Many strong men and women hop in a truck to race to a building and unknown situation that everyone else is running away from.

You should probably provide your address so if ever needed these brave “heroes” can stop by a strip club on the way to saving your ass.
