Firebug's New Road to the Gold Log

I’m glad you’re feeling better. You are on FIRE. I’m also hoping you post the video for this meet :).

Best,
Anna

Great opener for the squats, awesome you have two of the openers down and are confident. Great that you can eat as well without worrying about weight, nice. Look forward to hearing the third opener.

Thanks every one! I would like to take a moment to Thank You All for your support the past few months – it means alot.

Last nights training – Bench,

went well…opener will be 100kg(221).

So now it is time to rest and get ready for the meet. Today I will go see my chiro and get a massage(yeah). Then on to the meet venue to help set up some. Tonight and tomorrow lifters will start arriving – can not wait to see some of them again…

Hope every one has a great week in the gym. I will be poping in and out over the next few days…lots to do, lots to do.

Ok, So lifting is over and I am a bit tired and sore…the truck hit me and backed up a few times.

Long story short I did win the Masters spot for the 82.5kg M1 position in October. Came in second in the open. Finished with a 460kg total – down 15 kg from last year, but all in all did ok. Managed one squat, three benches and two deadlifts. Attempted a pr deadlift at 200kg, it came off the floor at least…but lock out, not happening yet.

Still have my goals for the year and will come up with a new plan…hopefully one that works ;).

Thanks again for all the support. I am off to sleep – and going to take some time off from the gym this next couple of weeks.

Malinda

Congratulations Melinda, sounds like you had fun.
Diana

Congratulations for winning a spot on the masters team for later in the year, that is awesome.

Hope you had a great sleep and feel less like a truck backed over you a few times.

Congrats on winning the spot on the Masters!

Totaling more than 1000 with only 6 lifts blows my mind! I want more details when you’re rested…

don’t change your plan too much, your last seemed to work quite well

Congrats again, you crazy Powerful Woman!

Get some rest.

Claire

Helluva truck!
Details to follow, I’m sure.
Take a well deserved rest and congrats on your winning spot!

There really is not much to tell about this meet. I did not do nearly as well as I would like to have – but then again I dont think I ever do, do I.

Made weight without an issue – I was almost two kg under. The night before lifting I checked my weight as was 81kg so we went to dinner and I ate – alot. Got in the next morning as was lighter than when I left the night before. Weighed in at 80.6 kg…the lightest I have been in a while at a meet.

Was first in the weight in order – kinda nice.

My flight was small with only 8 people in it and the flight after mine had 13. Meant the platform time flew, but we got alittle extra time to warm up. Still was a short time lifting. We started at 9 am and were done lifting by 1115 or so.

Warm ups felt good, but my suit went on way to easy after the weight loss :(. Think I should have gone with the new squat suit – but I was not sure of how the straps would have fit so I stuck with the one I wore in training. I will be using a new one for the next meet ;). Hit my opener easy – 170 kg(374). Took the second attempt of 180 and was called on depth – so It was my third as well. Well the next time I got out of the hole but missed it part way up. So squats did not go well this meet at all.

Next on to bench. Shirt went on very easy and I was not feeling to great so we dropped my opener down to 92.5kg (203). It flew off my chest. We went to my original opener next – 100kg(220) which also flew off the chest. 105 was my third attempt (national record) I got it – but I would have given myself a red light. My right arm dipped slightly on the way up. But only one judge saw it ;). So three for three in the bench – even if I did not get the number I wanted.

At this point I think I was ahead of my Masters competition by about 40 kg. But way behind the open winner, like almost 100kg ;). Liane is an awsome lifter.

Deadlift. Well I love deadlifts and at a meet am normally feeling great when we get to this point. Not happy but awake and ready. Dont do much warm up here – but am always ready.

Suit was very loose here as well. Hit my opener with no problems. Went to 185 from there. Again no problems at all. My coach took me to 195 – a weight I have done before but I wanted to try something new. I had nothing to lose as far as the Master’s team spot as I was ahead by 90 kg at this point. So we changed my last attempt to 200 kg. I did get it off the floor and about half way up my shins…but that was it. With more training it will go – so it is still my goal for Worlds to hit that 200 pull and 200 squat and a 115 bench. I am closer and I think that the past few weeks of being sick and a few nagging pains just caught up with me this weekend.

I have also found that I have better meets away from home – too many things to do when I am here. I do not take the time to rest that I should. Helping to set up, helping with lifters ect. But that is part of being a team…

Malinda

Thanks for sharing Melinda you know we would have all been there cheering for ya if we could have. Great job on the national record. We are very proud of you.
Diana

Congrats on winning a spot in the Masters, Malinda! We knew you could do it! Don’t be hard on yourself for not doing as well as you hoped…that’s what gives you the drive to continue to get stronger and stronger. Now enjoy your break so you can get ready for that journey in October.
