You would be very good at this. Your form is always excellent.
That video. Not much to say.
Just lately I’ve been observing this lousy [male] trainer working with this new skinny-fat dizzy client. You know, the giggly helpless female type who wears more makeup than I’ve owned my entire life. [Okay, that’s not saying much.] So today, he puts her in the cage. And I just can’t stand it. I walk up to these two unknown beefy guys who are curling and say “I can’t bear to watch that guy try to teach that girl how to squat. He sucks at them himself.” They just dropped their jaws. Luckily, it was time for me to head out.
I really try to not be concerned about others in the gym. Everyone has different goals. But really lousy form is just so hard to ignore.
Oh, that video!!! IH said it was like assembly line training. He kept going “oh no” over and over again. And the bicycling the legs while DB pressing? Is that supposed to be a coordination drill like patting your head and rubbing your belly at the same time? We were really impressed with the lunge/DB row thing though and the quarter curls.
mmmmmmmm, corn chex.
It’s refeed day! Almost as exciting as Christmas morning… ![]()
I’m down 9lbs and 5 inches in 14days…crazy,right??! Basically I undid most the damage caused through the Summer.
Remind me again why I thought it was a good idea to make baked goods every weekend for two months…ohhh, they were for the kids, riiiiiight.
I love corn chex! And honey nut cherrios and different kinds of special k and a whole bunch of other cereals.
Congrats on the loss!
Boss lady stopped me while I was warming up and said to come up with a ‘plan,’ for my idea…eek! She wants to talk more when I’ve got it figured out.
Yay, on the squat!!
Good luck with the “plan”!!! I’m sure you’re going to rock!
That 165 didn’t even look hard! Good job MiM, you’ll be squatting over 200 before you know it…just watch and see ![]()
good luck with boss lady!

It felt challenging but not impossible! Back, shoulder and knees felt fine! And the hip drive technique works for me…but not sure if that’s how I should instruct it. [
I’ll go for 200 by the end of the year…it’s always been one of my goals.
something I noticed watching the vid was the knee cave that I corrected at 29-31 seconds in…I didn’t even realize! …I do remember the knees starting to wobble and thats why I staved off going for 175 ![]()

Good for you for taking the initiative. Just some thoughts.
By “plan” I assume she means business / marketing plan. For the gym, it is about the money. Even if the popular trainer doesn’t know what she is doing, and they know it, they don’t care. She brings in clients.
I just read (literally 20 minutes ago) the OECD report on the fattest nation. Currently, 70% of US residents are obese or overweight (WTF??). Canada is not far behind. That is the market.
I think you need to use yourself as the example of body recomposition through strength training. Use your own before and after pics in the marketing material. Give them your story. This proves that is works. Put it in terms that people will understand…proper resistance training improves quality of life through strengthening of bones, gives you “everyday” strength to make life’s chores easier, permanent weight loss, posture, confidence, etc. Most will want to be leaner and more defined. Few will want to focus on strength only.
For programming I would include strength and fat-burning complex stuff (think Crossfit but not stupid). People associate sweating and being out of breath with working out so you need to give them some of that. Plus it is good for fat loss / conditioning. You can fix their fat and out of shape asses and give them a host of other benefits that they can’t get from a spin class or jumping in a circle while lifting 2lb DBs. You have a path to get people to where they want to go. It just happens to be the barbell.
This is a sell job (which your competition knows well) so you will need to dress to show your results (something you are comfortable with of course), speak confidently and reassure clients at every step that have made the right choice. Clients will be looking at you to see what the program can do for them.
I would also look up some of the writings of Alwyn Cosgrove on how to run a fitness business. The right lifting program is but one piece of the puzzle.
Sorry for the long post. 3 cups of coffee ![]()
ahhh, lots to think about!
thanks GD.
For starters I need to figure out stuff like:
How many times a week? What time?(I’m thinking the less busy times, but when the daycare is open)
How many people per group session?
What to teach per session? Just one lift? Do I want to teach bench press?(I suck at it myself, haha)
How to keep track of everyone?
Form only? Or program instruction?
Target Market and how to get em?
Liability?
More cred for myself…should I train for a PL meet/strongman comp? YES!!
I want to encourage everyone from the girls who follow along with the popular trainer, teenage guys/girls, older guys/girls trying to get back into it, total newbies, those that are curious, etc
If they want extra beyond what I’m teaching they’ll have to schedule sessions with me…(which is also part of the plan) ![]()
I suppose I can email that stuff to the Boss…she has a background in sales/marketing and is more than willing to help.
