Anyone have any good tips to find old kegs to use? I’m looking for free, if possible. I’ve decided to try some old-school stuff!
Go to your local corner store or liquor store and ask. At most you might have to pay the kegs deposit fee. I got mine for ten bucks.
Steal them from behind various restaurants, bars or clubs!
Or ask the manager/owner if you can have an old one or buy one.
I’ve also been looking for a keg without much luck. My wife works at an Ale house and they told her that all kegs are property of the brewer and have to returned and reused. There’s also a large brewer in my home town and they told me that the kegs have to be in pretty rough shape to be taken out of use, and even then I doubt they’ll give’m up for free. Another spot to check is ebay where the kegs are usuallly cheap $20-40 but shipping will likely kill you.
Good Luck,
YGuy
go to frat house at 5-6am, take keg.

or you can just pay the deposit fee on the shell, use the shit out of them, then take it back when you decide to get rid of them and get your money back. Many places charge about 25 dollars on the deposit, so I’d go with that as a more legal means of acquiring a barrel or two.
what fun is it if you don’t steal it?
Right on.
I recently got a new one because the old one was busted, so me and a buddy just took one out the front door on a party we went to.
When someone asked, we said “we are making room”
We just put it in the car and that was that.
The one before we got from a factory, I’m sure everyone has a friend who works in a brewery or a large good&drink store. If your friend is sure he doesn’t get in trouble(if he’s a wannabe friend, it ain’t your problem if he does … our guy got fired, hahaha!), allow him to let one “dissapear” …
Get a group of friends together buy a keg of beer, pay the deposit and drink your way to your new gym gear. You paid a deposit, so its yours.
Well, I don’t think I can drink quite that much beer (and pass finals anyway). So I’ll try asking the bars and restaurants, if I can get away with just paying for the deposit, that’d be great! Of course, Miller Brewing isn’t too far away, but I doubt if they’d be willing to part with any.
Thanks for the pointers!
Miller might be willing to part with a keg. I went to a local brewery and they were more than happy to give me an old keg… they even wanted to give me 2 more!

Good luck coming to my house. We keep everything locked up in a crawl space, including the empty ones, and most frats return them to liquour stores, especially if it’s a dry campus like IU.
I found a keg but I’m struggling to get the valve out so I can fill it. Has anyone got any ideas
E-mail Sen. Ted Kennedy. I am sure he could help you with your quest.

Excellent! I’ll have to find the number for the one here.

ROTFL, I almost posted the exact same thing.
If you can wait, go to a distributer at the end of the year, when they are doing their inventory/go earlier if you want – they gave me ten – sorry, all used – that either belonged to a different company, or were for a discontinued beer.
Cool, my brother’s girlfriend just told me that she’s got several mostly empty kegs in the basement of her campus apartment. My bro is going to get them for me when he goes to help her clean out the place.
